Obituary

Kimani Alkebu Vercher, Sr. was born in Houston, Texas on April 8. 1979, to Cleve Vercher, Jr. and Gail Vercher. Six years after his birth, his greatest and best friend was born, his own little shinning star, Clevesha La'Nae Vercher. Since 1985, the two have been simply inseparable.

Kimani's Christian walk began at Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church and later Greater Mount Carmel where he was part of the youth choir. He was baptized by Pastor Ronald Cooks while a member of Greater Mount Carmel. In 1998 he joined Crossroads Community Church under the leadership of Pastor Christopher Hartwell who fondly nicknamed him "Rick Ross."

Kimani attended Hartsfield Elementary and Albert Thomas Middle School where he played football. He graduated from The Ross Shaw Sterling High School in 1997. He was part of the Mighty Marching Wall of Sound Band where he played the tuba. He went on to attend Texas Southern University.

On July 8, 2005, Kimani married Deebra Wilson and to this union his two beautiful children were born, Kimani Alkebu Vercher, Jr. and Brooklyn Nicole Vercher. He loved his children immensely; they were his guiding light.

His career began at Kroger while in high school and after graduation he started working for Delta Airlines in Hobby Airport. His day-to-day duties at Delta allowed him to gain additional talents as he perfected his skill.

Kimani never met a stranger and was a friend to all. His personality was infectious and as big as his smile. Kimani enjoyed spending time with his family and going to the studio to compose music and was even featured on a track with S.U.C.

Even in the midst of his numerous illnesses, he continued to be the life of the party and a constant  source of joy. Our lives forever changed on December 22, 2023 and we will miss Kimani dearly.

Kimani is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Earl and Evelyn Brooks, his maternal great-grandmother, Viola Austin and his paternal grandparents Cleve Vercher, Sr. and Westanna Vercher-Staten as well as his paternal uncle, Danny K. Vercher, Sr.

His presence was a testament to the strength of family bonds, and he leaves a legacy of love and fond memories. Kimani is survived by his loving parents: Cleve Vercher, Jr. and Gail La Nae Vercher; his one and only sibling: Clevesha La'Nae Vercher; two children: Kimani Alkebu Vercher, and Brooklyn Nicole Vercher; one nephew: Darion Kemon Davis and one niece: Caylee Rhiaun Simpson. He also leaves four Aunts: Gwendolyn (Richard) Clay, Cheryl Godfrey, Karen House & Kimberly (Michael) Childress; three uncles: Gerald Green, Carl (Motapa) Austin and Calvin Lee Vercher; God daughters: Courtney Reed and Brittany Coleman and a best friend, more like a brother: Nathaniel Richardson and family. Kimani leaves a host of cousins, extended family and a tremendous number of friends.
