Larry D.
Ross
Jan 15, 1963 — Feb 28, 2024
Larry Ross, born on January 15th, 1963, in Lufkin, Texas, was the seventh child of Virgil Ross (1896-1974) and Vera McDaniel Ross (1925-2021). His life journey was one illuminated by vibrant passions, deeply rooted in family, sports, music, and a profound connection to his heritage. Larry's siblings include Billie, Detroy, Danny, Henry, Alvin, and Barbara.
During his formative years, Larry's zest for life found expression in his active engagement with sports, particularly Cross Country and Football. After graduating from Lufkin High School in 1981 left East Texas for new pastures, Larry embarked on a path marked by determination and adventure.
Larry's pursuit of higher education led him to the University of Houston, where he delved into Economics. Fate intertwined his path with that of Miss Felicia Hyde, and their love blossomed during a summer encounter at Angelina College. Their union, celebrated in November of 1986, was the foundation of a family life filled with love and devotion.
For thirty years, Larry served with dedication at THE Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, leaving an indelible mark as a Bus Driver until his early retirement in 2021. Throughout these years, Larry and Felicia raised their three beloved sons, Adam Jordan, Austin Lamar, and Alexander Drake, in the dynamic setting of Fort Bend County, Texas.
Adam, Austin, and Alexander each carved their own paths, graduating from Stafford High School and pursuing diverse careers, ranging from healthcare to law and postal services. Adam, with his tenure at United Surgical Partners International and Amazon, Austin, now as a Juris Doctor at Jackson Hewitt, and Alexander, serving as a US Postman, brought immense pride and joy to Larry and Felicia.
Beyond his roles as a devoted husband and father, Larry's interests spanned music, sports, and a deep appreciation for news, comedy and cinema. From the vibrant rhythms of Prince and Anita Baker to the excitement of Houston sports, Larry's passions enriched the lives of those around him.
Larry's legacy transcended earthly boundaries, as evidenced by DNA research tracing his paternal lineage to Haplogroup E-M180, linking him to the Bantu speakers of Sub-Saharan Africa and ancient ancestry shared with Pharaoh Ramesses III. This profound connection to history and heritage added depth to Larry's remarkable life story.
As we gather to honor Larry's memory, let us cherish the legacy of love, strength, and resilience he leaves behind. May his spirit continue to inspire us as we navigate life's journey, guided by his enduring example of courage and compassion. Love, Austin
