On September 7, 1930, a beautiful baby girl was born in Navasota, Texas to Lucille and Arthur Hall, whom they named Laura Ann. She was the third child born to this union. She was affectionally called LA by family and friends. She attended school in Navasota, Texas and graduated high school from George Washington Carver High.
Laura accepted Christ and early age and was baptized at St. Martinsville Baptist Church in Navasota. Later Laura moved to Houston and joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of M. V. Fletcher where she remained a faithful member until her health failed. She was a member of the New Hope Missionary senior choir.
Laura met and married Herman Smith Sr. in 1953. Four children were born to this union.
Laura was employed by Veterans Hospital, Methodist Hospital, HISD and the US Postal Service. She retired from the US Postal Service.
Laura loved her family unconditionally and had a huge heart for anyone who needed shelter or food. Her kindness was known throughout her neighborhood where she was called Ma-Mau by her grandchildren, neighbors and friends. Her huge heart included love for her pets.
Laura was proceeded in death by her husband Herman Smith Sr, her parents Lucille Hall and Arthur Hall, two siblings, Carrie White and Ephriam Hall, and grandson Tyrance Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memory four children Ephriam Smith (Carolyn), Catherine Sue Smith (John), Herman Smith Jr. (Audrene) and Arthur Leon Brandon Smith. Grandchildren Rodney Smith (Tamela), Roderick Smith (Donna), Robyn Smith, Allyson Wilson (Joseph), Lauren Smith, Herman Smith III, Brandon Smith Jr, Brianna Smith and Blair Smith. Brother-in-Law Michael Smith (Gina).
