Lawrence Anthony
Guidry
Jan 18, 1985 — Aug 2, 2024
Lawrence Anthony Guidry was born on January 18, 1985, in Houston, Texas, to Mr. Michael Coleman and Ms. Denise Allen. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Coleman. Lawrence leaves behind his cherished daughter, JaKayla Guidry; his loving mother, Denise Allen; stepfather, Linwood Allen; his older sisters, Monica Guidry and Maria Long; as well as his brother-in-law, nephew, niece, and extended family.
As the youngest of three children, Lawrence accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and lived his life guided by faith, morals, and values. Growing up in Southeast Houston, particularly in the 8000 block of Broadway, Lawrence became a beloved figure in his neighborhood. One of his passions was cutting hair, and he quickly established himself as the go-to barber among his friends and neighbors. Lawrence took great pride in his appearance, always ensuring his hair looked immaculate and rarely seen without his wooden brush in hand, often smiling as he groomed his hair.
Lawrence graduated from Cesar E. Chavez High School in 2003. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy, where he served for nearly eight years. During his service, he earned several honors, including the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He worked as a Navy Barber and Navy Retail Operation Manager. In 2013, Lawrence continued his military career by serving in the United States Air Force for nearly three years as an Air Force Logistics Management Specialist. He received an honorable discharge and returned to Houston, where he dedicated over 20 years of service to the Department of Homeland Security as a Supervisory Transportation Security Officer. Lawrence furthered his education and proudly earned a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management from Mercy University of New York in 2020. He dreamed of opening his own barber business, buying his parents their first home, and purchasing his daughter her first car after her recent graduation from Cordova High School. His plans, however, were not to be, as he went to be with our Lord.
Lawrence had many loves in life—music, singing, dancing, drawing, Cadillacs, and basketball. He had a gift for bringing joy to others, always ensuring those around him were smiling and laughing, never leaving anyone feeling sad. Lawrence was a peacemaker, hardworking, and devoted to his family, often mentoring others and giving selflessly to those in need. Even in his final moments, he showed immense humility and concern for others. Lawrence was a source of wisdom for many, always knowing the right thing to say. In his private reflections, he wrote, "True freedom is the ability to choose and have the power of will. Own your successes and failures in life. Pick your battles carefully. Sometimes it requires brains, and other times it may not. Either way, a winner is a winner, but you must deploy reasoning. Lots will happen in life. People will come and go, but remain strong in your own standing and flourish as you were meant to be."
"The Lord knows the days of the upright, and their inheritance shall be forever."
— Psalm 37:18 (NKJV)
