Leon
Howell
Sep 8, 1947 — Aug 2, 2025
Leon Howell, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on August 2, 2025, to reunite with his parents, Frederick Douglas and Willie D. Howell, and other loved ones who preceded him in death.
Born in San Bernardino, CA on September 8, 1947, Leon's early life took him to Caldwell, TX, where he was raised by his mother and grandparents after the untimely passing of his father, Frederick in 1952. He graduated from Smith High School in Caldwell before pursuing higher education at Texas Southern University in Houston, TX.
Leon would eventually meet and marry his beloved wife, Betty. The two married on November 22, 1968. A few years later, the couple would welcome their first child into the world- Rahsaan Ray Howell. Eight years after the birth of their first born, they welcomed another son- Kareem Amal Howell. The boys lovingly referred to him as "Pop".
Leon dedicated 40 years of his life to Valero Energy before retiring in 2010. He was known for his dedication to family, friends, and church, and started every day, sitting in his favorite chair by the window, reading one of his favorite scriptures- Psalm 25:7: "Do not remember the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you, Lord, are good" which grounded him in faith and purpose.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Bettye who has stood by his side throughout his life, his sons, Rahsaan (Chasie) and Kareem, and his granddaughter, Cydney Rae who was the apple of his eye and always brought a smile to his face. He also leaves behind special friends and family, including Jessie L. Jerkins of Caldwell, TX and goddaughter Charlotte Parker of Houston, TX.
His absence leaves an emptiness in the hearts of all who knew him and his presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the stories, laughter and love he shared. Though he is no longer with us, Leon's legacy of love, strength and kindness will continue to inspire us all.
