Leroy Lyons

Leroy Lyons was born on March 14, 1943, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was the third of six children born to Willie Lyons and Lillie Knox Lyons.

Leroy's educational journey began at Stoner Hill Elementary, followed by J.S. Clark Junior High School, and continued at Notre Dame High School. After graduation, he matriculated at Grambling State University, where he proudly performed as a member of the renowned marching band and became a distinguished member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. He later earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.

After graduation, Leroy proudly served in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Athens, Greece. Following his honorable service to his country, he went on to build a distinguished career in the insurance industry as a skilled and dedicated claims adjuster.

Leroy had an immense passion for sports, with a special love for golf. He embraced every opportunity to play and found great joy in the sport. One of his greatest pleasures was sharing that passion by teaching his son and grandsons the fundamentals of golf. His love for sports also inspired him to coach baseball, where he served as a dedicated coach for Almeda Little League, leading his teams to numerous awards. He also delighted in watching golf on television, appreciating both its skill and tradition.

Education held a place of great importance in Leroy's life. He was deeply committed to his children's academic journeys and remained actively involved in their education every step of the way. His dedication was evident in his leadership, serving as President of the PTO at Montgomery Elementary and as Vice President at Madison High School, where he worked tirelessly to support students, families, and the school community.

Leroy accepted Christ at an early age at Stoney Hill Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana, laying the foundation for a life rooted in faith and service. He faithfully served as a devoted deacon at Liberty Baptist Church, exemplifying humility and leadership. In his later years, he continued his spiritual journey and fellowship at Fountain of Faith, remaining steadfast in his love for God and his church community.

Leroy passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, who welcomed him into eternal rest.
