Obituary

Linda Diane Banks was born on February 4, 1948 to Mr. and Mrs. Mathis Burton, Sr. in Freeport, Texas. She was the first of five children. Her family relocated to Houston, Texas in 1956. Linda graduated from Evan E. Worthing High School in 1966, and attended Prairie View A&M University. She accepted Christ and united with Antioch Baptist Church (under the leadership of the late Rev. Sherman West), now known as Southeast Community Church. She later became an active member at Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Melrose Alpha Nimmo. She later joined Crestmont Park Church of Christ. She entered into holy matrimony with the late Ernest Banks on September 22, 1979. Although no children were born of this union, she was like a mother to many. Linda loved to cook, share recipes and was chief cook at most family gatherings. She enjoyed reading different types of books and the bible was her favorite book of all. Her employment began at Uniroyal Tires. After leaving Uniroyal, she worked for St. Joseph Medical Center as a Material Management Supervisor for over 30 years. She retired in 2009 due to failing health. She loved her job and coworkers and kept in touch with them throughout the years. Linda is preceeded in death by her beloved husband, Ernest Banks. Linda entered into God's heavenly gates on May 14, 2015. Left to cherish her memory are her loving parents, Mathis Sr. and Cornelia Burton; brother, Mathis Burton, Jr. (Ann); dear sisters, Janice Bush, Gloria Miller and Charlotte Burton; nephews, Armando Burton (Demetria) and Corey Burton, I (Katrina); nieces, Lakesha Golliday (Malcolm), Courtney Miller-Chism (Jonathan), LaNita Edwards (Kenny) and Brenda Solomon; godchildren, Ashley Powell, Corey Burton, II and Michael Edwards, great nieces and nephews and host of relatives and friends.
