Lorine
(Cleveland) Mamou
Nov 18, 1953 — May 19, 2026
Lorine Cleveland was born on November 18, 1953, to the late Birda Mae Cleveland in Benton, Mississippi. She attended school in Vaughn and Jackson, Mississippi. As a child, Lorine was mature beyond her years. She was known for her strong personality, natural leadership, and love of being in charge.
In the early 1970s, Lorine relocated to Houston, Texas, seeking greater employment opportunities. She resided with her uncle, Eddie Lee Cleveland, and his wife, Flora Cleveland, while continuing her education and earning her high school diploma.
Lorine believed in hard work and independence. She was employed by a book binding company and later worked assembling units at Vector Cable. After establishing her own home, she welcomed her mother and sister, Doris, as roommates. In the early 1990s, Lorine and her mother purchased a home together, where they lovingly lived until the passing of her mother in 1997.
Lorine found love and married Horace Mamou in 2004. They became faithful members of Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Lorine dedicated many years of service as a Hotel and Hospital Housekeeping Supervisor. When Horace’s health declined, she retired from her career to faithfully care for him. During this season, Lorine was also diagnosed with a chronic illness. Following a devoted marriage, Horace preceded her in death in January 2022.
Lorine had a passion for cooking and took great joy in hosting holiday dinners for family and friends. She appreciated beautiful things, loved FACEBOOK, enjoyed watching cooking shows and HGTV programs, gardening, and listening to the music of Johnnie Taylor. Above all, she was a devoted Christian soldier and a loyal friend to many.
Lorine was preceded in death by her mother, Birda Mae Cleveland, and her beloved husband, Horace Mamou.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory: sister, Doris J. Cleveland of Houston, Texas; brother, Wilson E. Cleveland (Alma) of Katy, Texas; aunt, Malissa Cleveland of Jackson, Mississippi; uncle, Charles E. Cleveland (Bessie) of Jackson, Mississippi; cousin, Shirley J. Griffith (George) of Houston, Texas; bonus sons, Russell Mamou (Raquel) of Fresno, Texas, and Steven Mamou of Houston, Texas; bonus daughter, Minister Chandra Stafford (Patrick) of La Marque, Texas; along with a host of cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.
