Mae Dell Godfrey was born on January 29, 1943, to the parentage of James and Lillie Brewer in Limestone County, Texas. She was the third of six children. She attended Douglas and Dunbar High School. She accepted Christ at an early age at Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church. In 1957, then the family moved to Houston, Texas where she attended Jack Yates High School.

She later met and married Elijah Godfrey to this union two sons were born, Wayman Martine and Darvin Keith. For many years she worked in apartment management. She retired from RPM Co. She was a faithful member of Lilly Grove Missionary Baptiste Church until her health declined.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elijah, father James Arthur Sr, mother Lillie Catherine, brothers James Arthur II, Billy Charles, and sister Anne Marie.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her sons Wayman Martine and Darvin Keith, daughter in-law Angela, ex-daughter in-law Cheryl. Two sisters, Lillie and Linda, two brother-in-law's, Oliver and Doug.

Grandchildren, Keshonda, Benjamin, Elijah, Kobe, Davenport, Dra Vaughn, Tyrone, Davia, Marquise. Great Grandchildren Zion, Zhamir, De'Andre, Zhuri, Rue, Donte, Aidan, Grayson, Briyanah, Chadrick. Sister-in-law's, Bobbie Brewer, Connie Nelson and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
