Obituary

Margaret Jack Morriesette Cadoree was born to Joseph Jack and Evelyn Etienne Jack on April 6, 1938, the eleventh of twelve children.  She attended elementary and junior high in New Roads,  Louisiana, and later moved to Houston in 1954, where she attended and graduated from Jack Yates High School in 1958.  Margaret enrolled at Texas Southern University in 1958 for one year.  In 1959, she married John Morriesette, Jr.  To this union, there were four children.  In later years, she met and married Rufus Cadoree.

Margaret returned to Texas Southern University, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics with a teaching certificate.  Amongst several career stops, Margaret worked at Milby High School for five years.  One of Margaret's fondest memories was riding in the homecoming parade for Texas Southern in 1958, earning the esteemed title of first runner-up to Ms. Home Economics.

Beyond her accolades and achievements, Margaret cherished the simple joys of life.  In the heart of the Sugar Valley neighborhood, Margaret's presence was synonymous with two things: her famous gumbo and her impeccable sewing skills. A pot of her famous gumbo, lovingly prepared, was served not just as a meal but as a symbol of her love and care for those she held dear.  Margaret had a zest for life. Whether she was cruising on the open sea or road-tripping down I-10 to the casinos, she seized every chance to create lasting memories.

Margaret accepted Christ and followed all of the ordinances of the Catholic Church as a devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church for more than 60 years. Margaret was an active member, until her health weakened, of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Knights of Peter Calvary Ladies Auxiliary.

Margaret is preceded in death by her father, mother, nine siblings, her grandparents, and her beloved sons, Michael Morriesette and John Gregory Morriesette.  She is survived by her daughters,  Cynthia (Vernon) Morriesette-McLemore of Timpson, Texas, and Sandra Morriesette of Missouri City, Texas; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gilbert Jack and Robert Jack (Cathy) of Houston, Texas; play daughter Marie Porterie;  and a countless number of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
