Marilyn Rose (Williams) Taylor

Her Journey

On July 16, 1955, in Houston, Texas, Marilyn Rose Williams was born to Silas (Cornish) Williams and James Williams. She was the 7 of child of 9 siblings. She was raised with the enduring values of faith, family, love, strength, and perseverance—qualities that became hallmarks of the woman she was throughout her life.

Marilyn was an exceptional person, soft-hearted but stern, joyous and loved helping people. Marilyn grew up in the Sunnyside community where she Sunny Side Elementary (now known as Young Elementary), she attended Attucks Junior High School and Evan E. Worthing High School.

Marilyn accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt Hebron Baptist Church in Houston, where Rev. J.J. Roberson was the Pastor. At the young age of fifteen, she met Richard Warren Taylor Sr., the young man who would later become her husband and lifelong companion. Following her husband, she united with Pentecostal Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W. H. Burks. Through life's joys and challenges, her faith remained a source of strength, comfort, hope and dedication. Now, under the leadership of Rev. Acie J. Jefferson, Jr. – Marilyn became a deaconess. Marilyn loved people, especially seniors. She had such a concern for the need and support o the seniors at Pentecostal, that she asked the Pastor to start annual Program for the Golden Agers – which she was the leader coordinator and began the Seniors On The Move Ministry, where her and Richard were Coordinators and Co-Coordinators. Your compassion for people leads her join the Marriage Ministry, a teacher for Vacation Bible School, participate in other ministries such as Pastoral Hearts, Women’s Ministry, Hospitality, Family Assistance Ministry and Christian Union. Marilyn simply loved like Jesus.

Through Marilyn and Richard’s union which spanned 54 years of love, came with two sons, Richard Warren Taylor Jr. and Bobby “BJ” James Taylor. Marilyn and Richard also opened their hearts and home to friends of their sons, embracing them as family and treating them as their own. Paulton Chinn became another son. Always longing for a girl, Marilyn became a godmother to Nichol Ashley Carter. Marilyn believed in family. She made it known that every holiday, every special occasion, every monumental achievement was celebrated with family and friends.

Always striving, she committed herself to personal growth and education. Marilyn continued her studies and earned a degree in Business Management from Houston Community College. Her professional journey included sales at Woolworth in downtown Houston, continuing her career raising to higher heights, she finally retired as Payroll Manager with Air Liquide. She was respected for her dedication, strong work ethic, compassion, and professionalism.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Marilyn's greatest impact was found in the lives of the people she loved. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a friend. She brought love, laughter, strength, wisdom, and comfort. Marilyn enjoyed her church family, cooking, traveling, music, family gatherings, shopping, and simply spending time with the people she loved. Marilyn was a part of a special small group which included church members which were called FAB 5, consisting of Betty Moon, Annie Scales, Margaret Adams and Rosalyn Wilson. They travelled; they shared family moments as they bonded together.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Silas and James Williams; her parents in-laws, Bobbie and Gladys Taylor; her beloved son, Bobby “BJ” Taylor; her siblings, James Charles “Buddy” Williams, Merlean Joyce Williams Newsome, Tommie Lee Williams, Carl Leonard Williams, Leslie “Snook” Williams, and Robert Damone Williams.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her devoted husband, Richard Warren Taylor Sr.; her bonus mother, Bernita Williams; her son, Richard Warren Taylor Jr. (Keiara), her siblings: brother -Danny Ray Williams (Bobby Jean), sister-Jeanette King Williams Amboree(Greg); brothers-in-laws: Danny Taylor(Marilyn), and Donald Taylor; sisters-in-laws: Mable Taylor Carter (Darrell), Maxine “Bobbie” Williams, Janice Williams, Willow “Rennie” Williams, and Sylvia Williams; her 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, church family, and dear friends.
