Mark Anthony Johnson

Mark Anthony Johnson was born November 5th, 1979 to Gerrol Lee Johnson, Sr. and Deborah Edith Johnson in Houston, Texas. He lived in Pearl Homes and 5th ward during his young life. He dedicated his life to Christ while attending Gulf Meadows Church under the leadership of Pastors Michael & Lisa McKellar where he was also a dedicated member of the Youth of Praise. As a young athlete he participated in Pop Warner football with the MLK Oilers under the leadership of his father, Gerrol Lee Johnson, Sr.

His education journey took him through the halls of Law Elementary, Albert Thomas Middle, and Ross Shaw Sterling Senior High. While at Sterling he excelled as a student-athlete participating in football, track and golf. Mark obtained his high school diploma in Spring of 1998. Following high school he briefly attended Houston Community College for Music Sound Design.

Mark believed in working for himself. Before landing into entrepreneurship he worked for various companies such as Texas Hobby Auto Auction, Houston Independent School District

(Pershing/Jones), St. Joseph Hospital and a host of others. Independently he worked as a chef, a mechanic, and a spiritual practitioner.

In his free time Mark enjoyed spending time with family & friends, creating new recipes, watching movies and listening & creating music. He also enjoyed spending time by the water and fishing when he could.

In 1999 he married Tabitha Valmore. During this union their daughter, Alima Kasai Johnson was born in 2007.

In 2008, Mark reconnected with Francella Williams after originally meeting in the halls of Sterling. Despite the trials and tribulations early on in their journey their love stood strong and blossomed no matter what came their way. Following a beautiful courtship Mark and Francella married April 4th, 2014 and remained together until his departure.

Mark was preceded in death by his father. He was called to Glory on August 12th, 2026.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Francella, daughter Alima, mother Deborah, granddaughters Ellie and Devorah, brothers Gerrol Lee Johnson,Jr.(sister-in-law Millicent), Patrick Johnson, sister Kristen Johnson, nieces and nephews: Mikaela, Gerrol III, Talia, Nalani, Alicia, Ayana, Dylan,Verna, Jonathan, Laila, and Bliss. He also leaves to mourn his

mother-in-law Doris Pennington, sisters-in-law Anshwa Lewis (brother-in-law Stephen), Renee Pennington and brother-in-law Gregory Hodge.

No matter where his journey took him, Mark never met a stranger. He leaves behind a host of friends and associates including Byron Webster, Timothy Armstong, Lisa Ross,

Natalie Norman, Harold Berry Jr., Carlos Pyrtle, Cedric Norris, Garrick Whitlock and many more.
