Obituary

On July 4, 1951, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, a beautiful life was born, that of Miss Mary Ann Zeno, to Leroy Zeno Jr. and Anna Mae Greene. At a young age, she relocated with her family to Houston, Texas, where she was raised in the historic Third Ward. She proudly attended and graduated from Jack Yates High School, a place that helped shape her strong identity and lifelong pride in who she was.

Known affectionately and firmly as "Miss Zeno," she took great pride in her name and made sure everyone else did too. She was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend whose presence filled every room she entered.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted and faithful member of St. Mary's of the Purification Catholic Church for over 40 years. Her faith anchored her through life's many challenges, and despite any obstacles she faced, she never allowed them to define or defeat her. She lived her life fully and unapologetically, with joy and determination.

Her life was a powerful testimony of strength, courage, perseverance, and the power of God. She taught her family invaluable lessons about resilience, faith, and finding joy even in difficult seasons. She loved to dance, sing, play bingo, listen to KTSU, and watch classic sitcoms. She never met a stranger—because within five minutes of meeting you, she would have your first name, last name, and phone number. She was truly one of a kind: a handful at times, but always a source of laughter, love, and unforgettable memories.

Her life was a beautiful blessing. Although our hearts are heavy, we smile knowing she was a gift to us all and is now at peace, resting in the arms of the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy Zeno Sr. and Anna Mae Greene Washington; her father, Curtis L. Washington; her daughter, Keisha Washington; her brother, Leroy Zeno Jr.; her nephews, Leroy Foster and Shaun Foster; and a host of family members and friends who now rest as angels in Heaven.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory her sister, Bertha Zeno; niece, Kina Foster; nephew, Robert (Samantha) Foster Jr.; great-niece, Alleah Foster; great-nephews, Darius Crook, Kristopher Wright, DeVan Foster, Desmond Foster, Robert Foster III, Correy Foster, and Triveon Foster; along with a host of extended family and dear friends.
