Melvin Eugene
Barron
Jul 21, 1946 — Apr 25, 2025
"Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them,"
Deacon Melvin Eugene "Buck" Barron, the youngest of 11 children, was born to Frank and Pertha Barron on July 21, 1946, in Alto, TX. His parents, 9 siblings, father and mother-in-law all proceeded him in death.
Melvin accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at a young age at New Hope Baptist Church in Alto, TX.
Buck, as he was affectionately referred to, attended public schools in Alto, TX, and was a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1967.
He was drafted in the United States Army in 1968, where he served two years before being honorably discharged. He moved to Houston in 1971, and began working with his brother, Norris, building houses around the area.
Shortly after he began working for Drill Co. Tooling Company in 1974, he met the woman he would spend the rest of his life with. At a house party on May 11, 1974, he met Janice Borne. He knew she was the woman for him. Seven weeks later, they were married on June 30, 1974. To this union, two children were born: His pride, Christopher David, and his joy, JaiAndreia Melniece.
In 1984, he began working for the City of Houston Waterworks Department until he retired in 2002.
In 1999, the family joined Brookhaven Baptist Church where he was a faithful member of the Male Chorus. In 2000, he was ordained as a deacon and served dutifully until God called him home.
Buck was an avid fisherman. He was never one to pass on an opportunity to cast his reel. He was also quite the grill master! He was always willing to whip up tasty, barbequed brisket and ribs for family and friends.
Never one to sit still for too long, he soon came out of retirement and began working for Avanti Transportation. He worked there until he was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2015. He fought and won his battle in 2016 and again in 2022.
Melvin answered God's call on Friday, April 25, 2025, when he suffered a cardiac episode. In God's care he leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife of 50 years, Janice, his son, Christopher (Aisha), his daughter, JaiAndreia, grandchildren: Jasmyne, Maddyson, Franklin, and Kendrah, his sister, Betty, in-laws: Wallace Borne, Erleen Valentine, Jerry Borne (Yvonne), O'Kathleen' Gordon (Sherman), and Thomasine Borne, Goddaughters: Christy Valentine of New Orleans, LA, Willicia Toran, of Houston, TX, and Hailey Blackmon, of Lithonia, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and great-great-great nieces and nephews that he offered sage advice to on many occasions.
