Merlin Dwight Thompson
November 12, 1957 - March 15, 2025
Merlin Dwight Thompson was born November 11, 1957, in Houston, Texas, to Mr. Rollie and Mrs. Merlee H. Thompson. On Saturday, March 13, 2025, our Heavenly Father called His beloved angel, Merlin, home.
Merlin was a well-known neighbor in the South Union area, attending Foster Elementary, Cullen Middle School, and a Graduate of Jack Yates High School class of 1976.
Merlin held various jobs in the Houston area before becoming his family's primary caregiver. He first cared for his Uncle Robert, followed by his mother, Merlee, then Uncle Theto, and later his two nieces and nephew. Beyond his family, Merlin was also known for his kindness in the South Union community, often assisting neighbors with errands and their daily or weekly needs.
From a young age, Merlin accepted Christ, joining St. Mary's United Methodist Church with his family as a child. His faith remained central throughout his life, and he later served in the Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church Harvey Food Distribution. Until his final breath, he continued to pray and speak of the Lord's goodness.
Merlin was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Rollie Thompson and Mrs. Merlee H. Thompson; his brothers, Rufus Earl Harrison and LaRue Thompson; and his sisters, Frence Lawon Thompson and Nettra K. Burks.
He leaves to cherish his memory: two nieces, Oprah (Theo) Montague and Olivia Garrett; one nephew, Monroe Burks; and a host of extended family and dear friends.
