In Loving Memory of Michael Dwayne Francis

On January 11, 1965, Michael Dwayne Francis was born to Sidney and Dorothy Francis in Houston, TX. He was the second child of five and he embraced all of the gusto that life had to offer.

Michael received his formal education in Houston Independent School District. He completed his early education at J. J. Rhodes Elementary School and Carter G. Woodson Junior High School before graduating from Ross S. Sterling High School in 1984.

A proud patriot and dedicated serviceman, Michael honorably served in the United States Army for eight years as a Construction Equipment Repairer. During his military service, he earned the Expert Qualification Badge for the M16 Rifle, the Expert Qualification Badge for Hand Grenade, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon. He courageously served during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm and received an Honorable Discharge in recognition of his faithful service to his country.

Following his military career, Michael became a faithful employee of the Dallas VA Medical Center, where he worked diligently in the Sterile Processing Department. In his lifetime, Michael worked in various career industries; however, his most significant and rewarding choice was his tenure with the Veteran’s Administration. His work ethic, dependability, and dedication were admired by colleagues and friends alike.

Michael truly lived life to the fullest and embraced each day with no regrets. One of the proudest moments of his life was the birth of his son, Marquis, whom he deeply loved and cherished.

Michael enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He loved bowling, shooting pool, playing chess, listening to music, singing karaoke, and dancing zydeco with his sisters. His favorite karaoke songs were “Tennessee Whiskey” and “Stand Up in It,” songs he sang with passion and joy. Those who knew Michael will always remember his beautiful smile, infectious laugh, and the warmth he brought into every room he entered. Above all, Michael loved his family. Whether sharing stories, laughter, music, or simply spending time together, family meant everything to him. His spirit, humor, and love will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Sidney Francis, Sr.; his grandparents, Sherman Francis, Sr., Felicia Francis, Freeman Scott, and Elnora Scott; along with many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins who welcomed him into eternal rest.

On May 14, 2026, Michael peacefully departed this life. He leaves to cherish his precious memories his devoted mother, Dorothy Francis of Beaumont; his beloved son, Marquis Francis (Shannon); his loving siblings: Sidney Francis, Jr. of Crowley, Bridget Breaux (Dudley), Yolanda Francis, and Tamarah Robinson, his grandchildren: Legace, Lyrikal. Shamere, and Legendairee who brought immense joy to his life. He will be deeply missed by his nieces and nephews: Justin (Von’Keisha), Jacque (Ciera), Jarrett, Chris (Diamonde), Brea, Braylon, Tyson, Chase, all of Houston, and Jonathan (Rose) of Sulphur, along with a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, cousins, and dear friends.

Though he is no longer with us in body, he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, service and unforgettable memories. The memories Michael created and the love he shared will continue to live on for generations to come.
