Obituary

Michael Wayne Roquemore was born August 28, 1954, in Houston, Texas to Willie Sr. and Stella Mae Roquemore.  He attended Reagan High School where he played football and basketball.  He graduated in 1972.

At an early age Michael joined Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E. D. Carrington.  Michael continued to serve at Greater Mt. Zion under the leadership of the current pastor, Dr. Gaidi K. Burgess until his health failed.  Michael would find fulfillment volunteering at the church food pantry, where he selflessly served those in need.  Michael's life has been marked by a commitment to service, love for his family and friends that helped guide his every step.  Through his faith, after retiring he dedicated himself to caring for his mother, Stella, until she peacefully passed away.

Michael was united in Holy Matrimony to Debra Renee Shotwell.  To this union one daughter, DeKeshia Renee Roquemore was born.

Michael was employed by the City of Houston Fire Department where he excelled on many levels. Michael was affectionally known to his co-workers as "Rock."  On May 31, 2013, after 35 years of faithful service, Michael retired.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Willie Roquemore, Sr.; his mother, Stella Mae Roquemore; brother, Tommy Roquemore; sister, Patricia Malone-Robbins; aunts, Lorraine Bridgewater and Evelyn Brown Tucker.

He is survived by his daughter, DeKeshia Renee Roquemore; his brother, Willie Roquemore Jr. (Leonette); uncle, Preston McBride, Jr. (Helena); cousin, Cindy Hall; nieces and nephews, Stephanie McGuire (Dan), Nikki Shepard (Russell), Darnell Roquemore (Jadrain), Givonne Roquemore, Armand Roquemore, Adisa Holder and Kisha Holder; and a host of other cousins, great nieces and nephews, family and friends.
