Obituary

Norma Jean Murray Spivey was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.

Norma Jean was born on October 19, 1932, in Huntsville, Texas.  She was the first of six children born to the late Clarence & Alta Mae Murray.  She accepted Christ at an early age at Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas.  She later joined Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Norma Jean's early education was in a small community known as Mt. Zion in Huntsville, Texas. Norma attended schools in the Huntsville Independent School District. She graduated from Huntsville High School in 1950.  After high school, Norma moved to Houston and met the late Querle D. Spivey to whom she was married to for 64 years.

She held various positions during her career at NASA and the Houston Airport System.  Norma worked as a Purchaser for The Williams Companies (formerly known as Transco Energy Company) and after over 23 years of service; she retired in 1995.

Norma Jean loved spending time with family and friends, sewing, decorating her home, shopping at "The Second Hand" store and the Galleria, collecting antiques, watching football, keeping up with current events, and gardening.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Clarence and Alta Mae Murray; husband, Querle D. Spivey Sr; sons, Bernard Spivey, Leslie Spivey; brothers, Roy Murray Sr., Joe Victory Murray; sister: Mariah Teal Bowden; a host of in-laws and relatives.

Norma Jean leaves to cherish her memories, sons, Elton Murray (Theresa), Querle D. Spivey Jr, Reginald Spivey; four granddaughters, Jeniqua Murray-Grice (Christopher), Jocquelyn Murray, Patrika Spivey, Re'Jine Spivey; grandson, Stephon Chatman; great-grandson, Marquise Landen Polk; sisters: Mary Helen Holmes, Hastle Dean Murray; sister-in-law, Mae Pearl Stinson, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
