Octavia Chretien Gordon (Big Mama) was born in Patterson, Louisiana on April 13th, 1930 to parents Gabriel Green and Bertha Smith Green.

Her and her family came to settle in Jeanerette, Louisiana, where she met her first husband (James Joseph Chretien) and started a family. Eventually following her mother to Houston, Tx, Octavia found and retired from work in domestic service and child care. In Houston, she met and married her second husband, Richard (Ricky) Gordon and were together many years until his passing.

Later in life, Octavia become a beloved member of Victory in Jesus. She was known as a reverent servant of God and devout member of the church, never skipping bible study, women’s group nor Sunday service.

Big Mama loved her daily walks, card and bingo games, hosting her yard and flea market sales, spending time with family and friends, and hosting plus feeding whomever came to her door. She lovingly took care of more kids then can be named, and her cooking and cakes were legendary to all who knew her.

She’s preceding in death by her husband Richard (Ricky) Gordon; her parents, Gabriel Green and Bertha Smith Green; a daughter, Cynthia Marie Chretien; 2 sisters, Anna Bell Mitchell and Helen Marie Bonier; and 3 brothers, Francis Green, Murphy Green and Shelton Green.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, a sister, Mary Emma Turner; five children: James Joseph Chretien, Jr (Ramona), Katherine Johnson (Ron), Elizabeth Lafleur (Austin), Patricia Ford, and Donald Ray Chretien; 14 grand-children, Lawrence Oles, Jr (Desire), Eric Chretien (Brittany), Jamal Chretien (Lorrie), Marcus Chretien (Erika), Andre Chretien, Jarae Shaw (Tyrone), Desmond Chretien (Rachael), Shelton Chretien (Princess), Welton Chretien (Tonya), Donae Mitchell (Jelani), Nakedra Marsh (Dwayne), Adrian Johnson, Tashan Lafleur (Bonnie), and Bianca Lafleur; 2 god-children, Mary Green and Herman Mitchell; 29 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, dear friends and other relatives.
