Obituary

Olton Joseph Rideaux, Jr. graced our world with his presence on June 17, 1955, a momentous event that marked the beginning of a life filled with purpose and love. He was born to the proud and devoted parents, Olton J. Rideaux, Sr. and Clara Mae Rideaux, in the serene embrace of Opelousas, Louisiana.

Affectionately known as "Nu-Nu" by those closest to him, Olton Joseph Rideaux, Jr. embarked on his educational journey in Opelousas, shaping his intellect within the corridors of its school system. Furthering his pursuit of knowledge, he continued his collegiate studies at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The narrative of Olton's life took a romantic turn upon his relocation to Houston, Texas, where he encountered the love of his life, Josephine "Josie" Robinson. Their union, sealed on August 18, 1982, blossomed into a loving family, graced by the presence of two sons: Olton Joseph Rideaux, III and O'Ryan S. Rideaux.

A dedicated professional, Olton contributed his talents to the parts department at Sears, Roebuck and Co., later transitioning into a well-earned retirement. Beyond his professional pursuits, his artistic soul found expression in drawing and crafting fine art pieces that captivated the discerning eye of any appreciator of beauty. Yet, above all else, his heart belonged to his family, and he reveled in moments spent in their cherished company. A remarkable figure, he held roles as a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, caring brother, cherished uncle, steadfast cousin, and loyal friend. His absence leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

On Wednesday, December 20, 2023, Olton Joseph "Nu-Nu" Rideaux, Jr. embarked on his final journey, transcending into eternal peace. Preceded in death by his father, Olton Joseph Rideaux, Sr., a brother, Rev. Johnny Rideaux, Sr., and three sisters, Sandra Ann Barrow, Evangeline Rideaux and Sheila Rideaux-Babineaux, he leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience.

Olton is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Josephine Rideaux; his dear mother, Clara Mae Rideaux of Opelousas, Louisiana; two sons, Olton Joseph Rideaux, III (Brittone) and O'Ryan S. Rideaux; grandchildren, Olton Rideaux, IV and Amari Rideaux; four sisters, Shirley Idlebird (Kenneth) of Houston, TX, Clara Alsandor (Mark) of St. Martinville, LA, Jerrylyn Williams (Theodore) of San Francisco, CA, and Joanna Rideaux (Quincy) of Opelousas; two brothers, Ronnie Rideaux and Roland Rideaux, both of Opelousas; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. His memory lives on in the hearts of those who were touched by his enduring spirit and love.
