Obituary

Ora Nell Blackmon, age 90 passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, August 5, 2024. On June 21, 1934, Ora Nell was born to the late Levi and Mae Emma Davis, in Bellville, Texas. She attended the public schools in Bellville where she ran track.

She was united in marriage to the late Lee Blackmon Sr. on July 25, 1954. There were 8 children born to this union. In September 1956, she moved from Bellville to Houston.

Ora Nell was baptized at an early age. When she moved from Bellville to Houston, she united with Christian Hope Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Pastor Herbert Stroman Sr. She worked faithfully on the Nurses Board for many years. In later years she united with Crossway Christian Fellowship where she attended until her health began to fail.

She worked at various places for many years as a Seamtress. She lived a simple life as she worked hard to raise her children, who she dearly loved. In her spare time she loved doing crossword puzzles.

Two of her favorite slogans were:

"It is a blessing to get old, but it sure is inconvenient"

"I raised 5 boys and 3 girls, me and Jesus"

She was preceded in death by her parents, Levi and Mae Emma Davis, 3 brothers, Willie Steve Harris, Levi Davis Jr., Arthur Davis and 1 sister Lue Ella Frazier.

She leaves to cherish her memories: five sons Arthur (Carolyn); Lee Jr. (Bernice); Garry Sr. (Kintra); Robert (Kimberly); Terence (Janice); three daughters: Gwendolyn; Pamela (Edward Sr.); and Angela (Ryan Sr.) 30 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, church members, and friends.
