Obituary

The legacy of Rev. Dr. Geromy Demetrias Johnson, Sr. began on July 1, 1978, when he was born to his father, Godfrey Johnson Sr., and mother, Raydena M. Johnson. With God's grace and guidance, Geromy embraced many roles throughout his life, including that of a Christian, Pastor, husband, father, brother, nephew, uncle, godparent, and friend. His life was a testament to his unwavering faith, dedication to his family, and commitment to serving others. Aproud 1996 graduate of Jack Yates High School, Geromy exemplified perseverance and excellence throughout his 46 years. He was raised in St. Paul AME Church, where he accepted Christ at an early age, and in 1998, he answered the call to the Christian ministry, embarking on a lifelong journey of serving the Lord and his community. Rev. Johnson was passionate about education and personal growth. He earned his Doctor of Ministry in Church Revitalization in 2023 and his Master of Divinity in Pastoral Ministries in 2018, both from Liberty University. Additionally, Geromy held two master's degrees: a Master of Business Administration (2013) and a Master of Information Systems and Technology (2011) from South University. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from Kaplan University in 2011. His thirst for knowledge continued as he pursued a degree in counseling. Beyond his academic achievements, Geromy was certified in Project Management, Kanban Management Professional (KMP), and Advanced ScrumMaster (A-CSM). His professional career led him to work as a Portfolio Manager in Business Technology at Sysco. At the time of his passing, Geromy was the proud Bible-preaching Pastor of Evangelist Chapel AME Church. Throughout his ministry, Pastor Johnson served with dedication at several churches, including St. Luke AME Church, Petra AME Church, Smith Chapel AME in Rosenberg, TX, and New Bethel AME in Cleveland, TX. Rev. Johnson lived a full, Christian, faith-filled life, marked by love and devotion to his family. He was a loving husband to Nikala' Tambora' Johnson for 19 years, and together they raised two beautiful children: Geromy Demetrias Johnson, II and Gia Deja Johnson. Rev. Johnson peacefully passed away on the morning of November 27, 2024, and was welcomed into the arms of the Lord. Rev. Johnson's generosity, tender smile, and compassion for others will forever be cherished. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Raydena M. Johnson, and grandmothers Mariya Rose Adams and Freddie M. Bullock. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Nikala' Johnson, who was not only his partner in life but also his best friend and confidant; children, Geromy D. Johnson, II and Gia D. Johnson; father, Godfrey Johnson, Sr.; brothers, Godfrey Johnson, Jr. (Contenia) and Superion D. Johnson, Sr. (Tikisha); sister, Amber Spell; mother-in-law, Jo Ann Washington; father-in-law, Alfred Land (Connie); sister-in-law, LaTonya Washington (Jimmy); brothers-in-law, Alfred Washington and Thomas Land (Eshawna); great aunt, Beatrice Sells; aunts Yvonne Magdaleno (Gerald), Wilburnita Moore, and Lisa Goss; uncles Rev. Kevin Bullock, Sr. (Corina) and Dr. Quintin Bullock; godmother, Daryl Brown; godchildren, Angel Jennings and Mechelle White; nieces Autumn Johnson, Serena Johnson, Jasmine Johnson, Alaya Johnson, Jernie Johnson, LaDaysha Washington, ShaDaysha Hayden (Jameson), Cherish Davis, Destiny Washington, Mya Washington, Taylor Land, Paige Land, and Braelynn Land; nephews Godfrey Johnson, III, Jarrett Johnson, Saevion Johnson, Superion Johnson, Superion Johnson, Jr., and Deaveion Washington (Marisela); cousins Kalyn Griffin-Bullock (Anthony), Kevin Bullock, Jr. (Katrina), Shamona Boss (Rayvon), Avian Thomas, Jonathan Cooper, Raneata Moore White, Quena Moore, and a host of other family members and friends. Rev. Dr. Geromy D. Johnson, Sr. was a beacon of light and hope in his community. His life of service, compassion, and faith left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He would encourage everyone to continue living in love, compassion, and understanding, always drawing closer to our Savior, Jesus Christ. His memory and legacy y will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, congregation, and all whose lives he touched
