Pearly
Watkins
Mar 12, 1936 — Jun 22, 2025
Pearly Whitlock Watkins was , born March 12, 1936, in Lake Providence, Louisiana as the eighth of 14 children to parents, Rev L and Freada Whitlock Sr. At an early age Pearly accepted Christ at the Morning Star Baptist Church which was pastored by her Father Rev L Whitlock Sr. As a young adult, Pearly moved from Lake Providence to Houston Texas. It was there in Houston that she met and married her husband Calvin Watkins with whom she, as a proud mother of 4 daughters, was blessed to share a loving marriage with him for 57 years, parted only by her death.
Pearly worked and retired from the Texas A&M Agricultural Services division as a dedicated certified Nutritionist Counselor. This career was second nature for Pearly as she always had a born love for cooking. Pearly became an extraordinary cook who truly loved preparing delicious home cooked meals and desserts for her family and friends. Her cornbread dressing, pound cakes and 'Tea Cake' cookies were deliciously outstanding and unmatched. She always welcomed with open arms and heart both family and friends to come sit at her table and enjoy. When she wasn't cooking, she loved gardening and was blessed with an awesome 'green-thumb'.
Pearly was a God loving and prayerful woman, who never ceased to pray and study the word of God. She provided spiritual guidance to both family and friends to provide them with the unmeasurable treasure of knowing, loving and communing in Prayer with God. Today many of those that she encountered and spiritually mentored, still thank her for the spiritual guidance that she gave them which helped lead them to a relationship with God.
Pearly has always been a faithful church member and joined the Silverlake Church, along with her husband Calvin Watkins. She served on the Prayer Ministry team as a devoted prayer warrior until her passing.
