Phillip Leon
Monroe Sr
Nov 2, 1967 — Jul 17, 2025
On November 2, 1967, in Houston, Texas, a handsome baby boy was born to the union of Curtis Monroe, Sr. and Maggie Stamps Monroe. That boy was Phillip Leon Monroe, Sr., a man who would grow to touch many lives with his kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends.
From a young age, Phillip was rooted in faith. He was baptized at El Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where he became an active member—serving on the usher board and lifting his voice in the Men's Choir.
A proud graduate of Ross Sterling High School, Class of 1986, Phillip showcased his passion for music as a dedicated member of the school band. He played the drums with heart and soul, each rhythm telling a story and leaving unforgettable impressions on those who heard him. His musical talents were just one expression of his vibrant personality.
He pursued higher education at MIT Technical School, where he earned his certification, quickly securing employment with CenterPoint Energy (formerly Entex), where he remained for 25 years. Most recently, Phillip worked at Methodist Hospital, where his strong work ethic and warm demeanor left a lasting impression.
Phillip loved life and lived it fully. He enjoyed playing baseball and bowling and was well-known for his barbecue skills—especially his famous ribs. Family and friends were the center of his world-he loved gathering with them, sharing laughs and bringing people together. Phillip was a natural comedian who lit up every room he entered and never lost touch with those he cared about.
Phillip's proudest role was being a father. He leaves behind his loving children: Chermanie, Phillip Jr., Marcus, and Roylene (Yumma), as well as his lovingly adopted grandchildren, Je'Coryean and Angel. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life, each a living testament to his legacy of resilience, humor, love, and loyalty.
Phillip is survived by his loving mother, Maggie Monroe, and was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Monroe, Sr. He was a cherished brother to Kimberly, Gerald (Tajuana) Shannan (Donovan) Curtis, Jr. (Patricia) James (Lisa) Angela (James) Stevie, Dalesia, Stephanie (Anthony) Terrance and hosts of relatives and friends.
His life was a tapestry of love, laughter, faith, and family. Though he may no longer walk beside us, Phillip Leon Monroe, Sr. will forever live in our hearts.
