A CELEBRATION OF PHYLLIS' LIFE
Phyllis Pearl Womack was born on November 22, 1955, in Greenville, Alabama, to the late Will Ester Lewis and Fannie Mae Womack. She graduated from Pensacola High School and later received her Associate of Science degree from Pensacola Junior College. She joined the United States Army Reserves drilled in Pensacola, until her relocation to Houston, TX. While working as a secretary at the University of Houston (UH), she met and began to date a young man named Ronald Simpson. They later married and she gave birth to their only son, Jeremy. After she left her position at UH, she began working for Duke Energy as an Offset Graphic Designer and remained there until early retirement. Phyllis loved the Lord; she accepted Christ as a child and worshiped at Mount Lily Baptist Church, Pensacola, Florida. After her relocation to Houston, Phyllis joined and worshiped at Christian Rescue Mission under the spiritual leadership and guidance of the late Bishop Leroy Woodard Sr. until his heavenly transition, after which she worshipped under Bishop Leroy Woodard Jr. at the City Cathedral Church. Phyllis served the church and community in several capacities; she served as a Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher for age 3-8 and Youth Director. She and her husband Ron, volunteered for the Annual Thanksgiving & Christmas Super Feast, sponsored by City Wide Club of Clubs, to feed the hungry, serving over 35,000 people each year at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
She was a lady known for her honesty, caring ways, and dedication. She instilled the values in always doing the right thing and treated everyone she met with dignity and respect. She was also an active member of several quilt guilds, including the Blue Triangle, and she donated beautiful quilts throughout Houston for various causes.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ronald D. Simpson; parents, Will E. Lewis and Fannie M. Womack; brother, Willie Frank Simmons; mother-in-law, Lillian Simpson Williams; and four brothers-in-law: Khalil Elder, Curtis Martin, Kenneth Mayfield, and Kenneth Simpson.
Cherishing her memory, Phyllis leaves her son, Jeremy L. Simpson; siblings: James C. Lewis, Harker Heights, TX; Sharon V. (Norvell) Jenkins, Pensacola, FL; Bennie E. (Tammy) Hester, Columbus, GA; Marcia L. Hester, Houston, TX; four brothers-in-law, all of Houston, TX: Keith (Ester) Simpson, Curtis (Charlotte) Simpson, Donald (Myrtle) Simpson Sr., Gregory Simpson Sr.; four sisters-in-law of Houston, TX: Brenda Martin, Dianne Simpson, Linda Mayfield, and Sharon Elder; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who loved her dearly.
