A Life Well Lived- Obituary

On January 7, 1954, Larry Davis, Sr. and Eartie Mae welcomed their final bundles of joy, a set of identical twins. The youngest was Randal Lewis Davis. Affectionately known as "Pee Wee", he was the last to join one sister and three brothers.

Born and raised in Jasper, Texas, Randal attended J.H. Rowe Elementary School and Jasper Intermediate/ High School. He graduated as a proud Jasper Bulldog in 1972.

After the twins' high school graduation, the Davis family moved from Jasper to Houston, Texas. Arriving in the big city, Randal began yard work with his relatives until he started a job at Faroy Candle Company. He then acquired a Commercial Drivers License and started his career in freight and transportation. Randal's journey as a big rig driver started at Strickland Freight. He then joined the team at TOX (Texas Oklahoma Express), moved to CF (Consolidated Freight), and retired from Yellow Freight after 35 years of local freight service. He would often identify his "routes" all over Houston and surrounding areas. With a continued friendly passion to greet and serve, Randal worked as a beloved crossing guard in the Houston Independent School District at Kate Bell Elementary School until August 2025, greeting families in the Houston area with his genuine smile and chivalrous southern head nod and hat-tip.

Randal was well loved by his neighbors in his community of 38 years, Hunters Green of Missouri City. He had a long-standing friendship with Nick and Smitty, where the three would share a friendly competition for Yard of the Month every Spring. He enjoyed manicuring his own yard, taking special care of the beds and his immaculate edge job.

Randal married Debra Ann Smith in 1980, and they welcomed two children, Krystal Yvette and Randal Lewis, II. He was always extremely proud of his 45-year marriage, and he found pleasure in talking about his children's careers, sometimes mixing up all the details. He would report that his son did something in a lab (Scientist), and his daughter talked to people (Licensed Professional Counselor). As a proud grandfather, his t-shirts often reflected that his "Favorite people call him Big Daddy". Bryce Lewis, Pyper Marie Rosalyn, and Kortlandt Allen Marquise built many fond memories over the years spending fun times outside in the sun, floating in a pool, and relaxing on family road trips. Big Daddy spent lots of time at basketball games supporting Bryce, gymnastic meets with Pyper, and enjoying Kortlandt playing the snare drum. Randal loved cooking a hearty and soul- satisfying Sunday dinner to enjoy with his family. Everyone who knew Randal also knew that his true passion, aside from his family, was BAR-B-QUE! It was often said by Debra, "he will smoke YOU if you stand still long enough!" He had a proud collection of pits and smokers, and it was always a good time when he was ready to "fire up". Even though Randal was known to be quiet and modest, he had a taste for fine things. In his garage, he took pride in detailing "RED", his favorite sports coupe BMW.

Randal's Christian faith began at an early age, where he worshiped and was baptized as a young child at Lily Grove Baptist Church in Jasper, Texas. Randal served in the United Methodist Church for most of his adult life and served as a greeter and parking lot attendant at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church. Until his departure from Earth, members of Emmanuel United Methodist Church looked forward to Randal welcoming them into the worship experience as a proud greeter on Sunday morning.

Randal Lewis Davis, Sr. is preceded in death by both of his parents, Larry Sr. and Eartie Mae Davis, uncles, aunts, brothers and sisters. Randal is survived by his wife Debra Davis, daughter Krystal Davis, son Randal Davis II, grandson Bryce Davis, granddaughter Pyper Davis, and grandson Kortlandt Roberson (father Chancellor Roberson). Randal leaves to mourn a host of loved ones, including his twin brother Roman (Berlyndia), sister Lucinda, brother Larry Jr. (Marabeth), Mother-in law Ophelia Smith, Sister-in law Denise Smith Powell (Jerome), and an extensive list of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and colleagues.
