Obituary

Randolph Emmanuel Goodwyn, Sr., affectionately known to all as Randy, departed this life peacefully at his home in Houston, Texas, on October 6, 2025.

Born in Long Branch, New Jersey, alongside his twin brother, Ralph, Randy was a son of the late Rev. William C. and Mrs. Pecolia Walker Goodwyn. At the tender age of two, his family relocated to McKenney, VA, where he spent his formative years and attended Dinwiddie County Public Schools, laying the foundation for the kind of man he would become.

Randy's profound faith began early in life, accepting Christ and being baptized at Big Bethel Baptist Church in McKenney, VA, at age eleven. His spiritual journey continued steadfastly through moves to Lake Charles, LA, where he worshipped at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, and later to Houston, TX, where he also attended other churches. Even when unable to attend in person, his devotion remained unwavering, as he regularly sought spiritual nourishment through virtual services from Ebenezer AME Church in Ft. Washington, MD, and Macedonia Baptist Church in Macon, GA.

Randy possessed an admirable work ethic from a young age, exploring various roles, including his time at Dunkin Donuts; however, it was behind the wheel that he truly found his calling. Inspired by his older brother, William, Jr., Randy developed a deep passion for the open road and the "18-wheeler" life. This passion blossomed into the ownership of his fleet of brown trucks, Goodwyn Truck Lines, and culminated in his final position as Driver Manager with Tom Hassel Transport, Inc. He approached this position with immense pride and gratitude. In his later years, he also found joy and fulfillment as Manager at the Blue Bayou Café in Houston, TX, a testament to his versatile talents and genuine nature.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Randy was truly a beacon of joy and warmth. He inherited his mother, Pecolia's remarkable ability to connect with everyone he met, never encountering a stranger. His infectious laughter, radiant smiles, and genuine warmth brightened every room he entered. A true lover of music, Randy's spirit often shone brightest during karaoke sessions, where he happily shared his voice and spread pure delight to all who listened. His joyful spirit was a precious gift to everyone fortunate enough to have known him.

Randy was preceded in death by his older brothers, William, Jr. and Jesse Goodwyn, and his eldest sister, Mable Tucker, joining them in eternal rest.

Randy's life will be forever cherished by his loving daughter, Jacquelynn Pierce (Kevin) of Petersburg, VA, and his devoted son, Randy Goodwyn, Jr. of New Orleans, LA. He also leaves behind his cherished sisters, Lawrenza Hunter of Forestville, MD; Mildred Laidler of Somerset, NJ; and Thelma Bradford (Harry) of Upper Marlboro, MD; and his beloved twin brother, Ralph Goodwyn (Ophelia) of Macon, GA. His legacy continues through his two grandsons and two great-grandchildren. Randy also leaves behind a wide circle of adoring nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless dear friends who will always carry the imprint of his love, laughter, and radiant light in their hearts.
