Reginald
Williams
Dec 28, 1957 — Sep 10, 2025
Our beloved Reginald Williams, Sr. departed this life on September 10, 2025, breaking the hearts of his wife of 48 years, Wanda; his sons Derrick and Reggie Jr. (Brandy); and his pride and joy, grand kids Ashley, Rush, Raider and Rocket Williams. Reginald's absence has been profound as he lived a life full of love and devotion to his family and friends.
Reginald grew up in Portsmouth, VA. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School where he perfected his skills as a full back on the football team, proudly wearing Jersey #33. Reginald worked at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after high school as a sandblaster. Shortly thereafter he married his high school sweetheart, Wanda and later joined the U.S. Army in June 1981.
Reginald's military career covered assignments around the country and abroad. His first duty location was Pirmasens, Germany where his wife and first-born son, Derrick, later joined him. While stationed there, they soon welcomed their second son, Reggie, Jr. Later in his military career, Reginald had duty assignments at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO; an 18-month hardship tour in South Korea; and his final duty assignment at Fort Lewis in Washington. After leaving the military, he stayed in Washington and worked as a mechanic at Boeing. A layoff later prompted him to move back to his hometown in Virginia with his family. Once there was news that Boeing was rehiring and he had been offered a job, he left Virginia and traveled alone by driving across the country to the West Coast to rejoin Boeing and set up living arrangements. Soon after, his family rejoined him in Washington. Reginald's commitment to his family showed up in the efforts he made to ensure he provided for them. No complaints, just do it. He always embodied the essence of the term 'soldier".
Reginald's love of football would be instrumental over the years as he guided and supported his sons in the sport, from coaching them in organized little leagues to cheering them on at games when they reached high school and college.
Derrick and Reggie both excelled in football during their high school and college years. Derrick was a Wide Receiver at Lakes High School in Lakewood, WA. Reggie Jr. excelled in high school football as well and pursued his dream of making it into the NFL. He attended the University of Washington and played on the football team as a Wide Receiver where he broke numerous records. Reggie Jr. would later enter the draft and was a First Round #9 Wide Receiver pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars, donning Jersey #11. Reginald Sr. could not have been prouder along with the entire Williams family.
Reginald LOVED fishing! His fried fish was special! He also found joy in teaching his grandsons and friends how to fish. Jeff Cox, a family friend, was one of his fishing buddies as well and has expressed many fond memories of fishing time spent with Reginald.
Now, the card games were the centerpiece of many great visits with Reginald, his family and friends. A card game of tonk would turn into the most competitive and trash-talking event ever, but all in good fun and for bragging rights. The great memories shared with our husband, father, uncle, brother and friend are too numerous to mention but will never be forgotten. Reginald always welcomed friends and family into his home with warmth, kindness, and showed up for those he loved by being supportive.
Over the many years, Reginald and his family met and cultivated warm relationships with many families which include the Bennets, Browns, Clarks, Reynolds, Barnes, Fortunes, Joneses, Sampsons, Griffiths, Dixons, Thomases, Edwards, Doughtie, Ellis, Hills, Goosbys, and Spruills. Reginald also had a very special relationship with his niece, Tracy Bradshaw; his great-nephew, Jalen Bradshaw; and aunts Barbara Williams and Sheila Matthews. In addition, he had a very special relationship with his bonus sons, Jason, Kenji and DeAndre.
Reginald is predeceased by his parents, Aunt Lottie and Aunt Josephine who raised him; brother, Anthony Nottingham; and sister, Jenist Williams.
Reginald leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Wanda; sons Derrick and Reggie, Jr.; grandchildren, Ashley, Rush, Raider and Rocket; brothers, Andre Nottingham and Darryl Nottingham; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Our "Soldier" will be missed forever
