Rev. Will Irvin Roberts Jr., was born on September 12, 1943, in Brenham, Texas, to Will Irvin Sr. and Maezel Roberts, Will’s family relocated to Houston, Texas, during his early childhood. He attended HISD’s elementary, middle and high schools where he graduated from Evan E. Worthing High School.

Will was united in holy matrimony to his beloved wife, Beverly Ann Washington, with whom he shared a beautiful life built on faith, love, vows and devotion. To this union they raise two beautiful daughters Saundra and Roshunda.

A proud and courageous veteran, Will answered the call to serve his country during the Vietnam War. He fought valiantly under the command of the historic 101st Airborne Division, the "Screaming Eagles." Upon returning home from his military service, he focused on his education and successfully obtained an Associate Degree in Business Management.

Rev. Will Roberts was a faithful and dedicated servant of the Lord, anchoring his spiritual life at Greater Union Missionary Baptist Church. Over the years, he served devotedly under the pastoral leadership of both the late Rev. A.D. Harris and Rev. Floyd Johnson. He continued his steadfast walk in faith under the current leadership of Rev. G.T. Curry Jr., answering his true purpose when he accepted the sacred call to ministry.

Rev. Will Roberrt’s served in various capacities at Greater Union Baptist Church, Vice President of the Usher Board, member of the Sunday School and Baptist Training Union, Finance Committee, former Chairman of the Deacon Board and along with his wife Beverly, successfully Chaired the Pastoral Anniversary Celebration for several years, including the Pastor's 30th Anniversary Banquet. After accepting his calling to the ministry, Will remained committed as the fiduciary steward overseeing the church's financial resources serving as Minister of Finance until his health failed and he could no longer serve as he so desired.

A man of exceptional work ethics, Rev. Roberts devoted 24 years of loyal service to Shell Oil Company, where he retired. Refusing to slow down, he continued his productivity post-retirement as a self-employed contractor for FedEx. Driven by a deep commitment to his community, he later launched "Kiddie-O Bus Services," which specialized in student transportation. Alongside his wife, he lovingly operated this business, safely transported students to and from school for 10 years.

In 2021, Rev. Roberts was diagnosed with dementia. He faced this journey with immense strength, grace, and resilience, supported by the enduring love of his family. Will Irvin Jr. passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of service, dedication, and love.

Rev. Will Irvin Roberts Jr., of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully at 5:05 pm on May 29, 2026, at the VA Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was a deeply loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Rev. Will Roberts Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, Will Roberts Sr., Mazelle Roberts, and his seven siblings: Alexander (Bunk), Donald, Shirley, Larry, Walter, Lloyd (Duke), Jerry, and Mike.

He is survived by his devoted and faithful wife of 59 years, Beverly Ann Roberts; daughters Saundra (Lyndon) and Roshunda (Isaac); grandchildren Quinton (Hollie), Chelsea (Khalil), Danielle, Jalen, and Raven; and 8 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother John Roberts (Christina); sister Lenora Roberts; God sister Lynda Powell; Aunt Willie B. Lockett (Febbie); brothers-in-law Donald Shannon and GV Moore Jr.; a special niece who was like a daughter, Yolanda Faye Parker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, along with Pastor and Sister Curry, and the Greater Union Family.
