With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Ron D. Sumner, affectionately known as "Cowboy," who transitioned peacefully on February 22, 2025, at the age of 68. Ron was born to Alice Winters on March 11, 1956, in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Ron was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Judy A. Sumner, with whom he shared 37 years of love, commitment, and partnership. Together, they built a family that he cherished dearly. He was a proud father to his daughters, Armenia  (Rashad) Davis and Ayrinn Sariol, and a beloved grandfather to his grandchildren, Messiah, Saniah, and Jessiah Davis.

Ron had 8 siblings, Mike, Robert, Jonnie, Bobbie Ray, Janice, Joyce, Dian, and William. He held a special bond with his siblings and loved them deeply, growing up with his grandparents who played a significant role in his childhood and upbringing.

As a business owner of RDS Land Modification, Ron's passion for landscaping went far beyond work—it was his calling. He approached every project with care, dedication, and an undeniable work ethic. His clients, friends, and family admired his determination and integrity. Ron was a provider and protector to all who knew him. His love for his family, especially his "Nubian queen," Judy, knew no bounds, and his kindness touched the lives of many.

Those who met Ron would quickly attest to the lasting impression he left on them. His warmth, generosity, and ability to connect with people were unparalleled. He was loving and caring to everyone around him, always going above and beyond for those he loved.

Ron's legacy will live on through his family, friends, and the many lives he touched. His favorite scripture, Isaiah 40:31, reminds us of his strength and faith:

"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." (KJV)

A wake will be held at 10:00 AM followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM on March 11, 2025 at St. John Downtown Church. Flowers may be sent to Troy B. Smith Professional Services.

Ron will be dearly missed, but his memory and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
