Roy Wendell Benson was born on August 23, 1940, in Needville ,Texas to Elvira and Scott Sr. Benson. Roy enjoyed working and spending time with family. Roy graduated from Powell High School in 1958. A year later, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served for 5. years. Upon leaving the army he began his employment at Grocers Supply Company. During this time, Roy was introduced, by his cousin, to the love of his life, Alma Jean Jackson. Six months later, on June 28th, 1968, they wed. From their union they had two sons, Travis Wendell Jackson Benson and Terrance Roy Benson. In 1984, Roy left Grocers Supply and embarked on opening his own barber shop, Benson's Barber Shop. He remained at the barber shop until 2010, when he became ill with Alzheimer's/ Dementia and becoming Paraplegic. His wife, Alma Jean Benson, his Earthly Angel, lovingly and selflessly, stood by his side, caring and supporting him for the duration of his illness.
Roy is preceded in death by his Mother, Elvira Benson; Father Scott Benson Sr.; Brother, Melvin Benson; Brother, Scott Benson Jr.; and Grandson Jared (Chris) Williams.
Roy leaves to cherish his memories: his Wife, Alma Benson; Son, Travis Benson (Theresa); Son, Terrance Benson: Granddaughter, Karina Benson; Grandsons Reginal Anderson, Elijah Benson, Ezekiel Benson, and Emmanuel Benson; Five Siblings, Pinkie Arnic (Clois), Lester Benson (Jeanette), Hayward Benson (Ivy), Glen Benson, and Barbara Peugh (Adolf) and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives
