One Spring morning, March 24th, 1954, during a torrential rainstorm in Chicago, Illinois, a loving, beautiful baby girl was born .  Ruby Jewel Herron , the eldest child of William and Sadie Mae Herron entered into the world.  Ruby was an energetic, inquisitive and highly motivated child.  She was a Trailblazer and wanted to make a difference in the world.  She rose to every occasion, was up for every challenge and she NEVER gave up.

At a very early age Ruby and her family returned to Houston from Chicago.  For many years growing up Ruby resided with her grandparents, the late Elder Willie Gibson and Mother Thelma Gibson, the Founders of Greater Emmanuel Church of God in Christ on Kelly Street in Houston.  Under the protection and covering of her grandparents Ruby accepted Christ at an early age and became affectionately known as "Sis. Ruby Jewel".  She was actively involved in the Youth Programs at church.

Ruby adored her grandparents and they loved her dearly.  She referred to her grandparents as Nannie and Granddaddy.  She loved to speak of all the great times she shared with them traveling and going fishing during her childhood.  One of her most vivid memories that she often mentioned was selling church dinners alongside her grandparents that enabled them to purchase the property to build a new sanctuary.  On April 6, 1995 Ruby joined South Post Oak Baptist Church which is now the Fountain of Praise.  Ruby rededicated her life to Christ and reunited with The Fountain of Praise, September 19, 2021.

Ruby was educated in the Houston Independent School District and graduated from Evan E. Worthing High School in 1972.  While in High School Ruby was part of the Vocational Education Program and pursued a career path in the Healthcare field.  Ruby attended Houston Community College and was enrolled in the Continuing Education Program.   Her Vocational background enabled her to work at many local hospitals.  Her career in the medical field spanned 24 years and she worked at several hospitals starting off at Mercy Hospital, Center Pavilion, Ben Taub and she retired from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center after undergoing extensive heart surgery

After High School Ruby modeled in a local program under the direction of Tom Cato.  She often spoke fondly of those years

In 1978 Ruby's children, twins; Christiful and Christine were born.  Ruby was a parent that wanted only the best for her children, always stressing the importance of education, hard work, setting goals, staying focused and having a personal relationship with God.  It was Ruby that gave Chris his first set of clippers and gave him a brief lesson that started him on  the road to becoming a Barber Entrepreneur.  She was so proud when Christine accepted, with her encouragement, a career in the Military.  She lived her life vicariously through her children.

In 1980 Ruby and Phyllis met, a chance encounter that has spanned 41 years.  Their extended family includes 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons.  Ruby was a nurturer with a playful side.  She would have tea parties and enjoyed spending time, dancing and having fun with the children.

Ruby was adventurous and a lover of life!  Traveling was one of her favorite hobbies.  She loved the Caribbean Islands, Cruising, Florida and Las Vegas.  She loved to entertain in the home garage.  It was nicknamed "Club Ruby" where family would gather to celebrate, especially during Holidays and Special occasions.  Ruby never met a stranger and loved to have a good time.

Let us fondly remember her for the love and laughter she brought into our lives.  Let us remember her as a fearless warrior that fought an uphill battle with heart disease for 27 years and won until God decided to call her home.  Ruby was considered a " Miracle " by her doctors and all who knew her health history.  After 2 major heart surgeries, 2 valves replaced, a double bypass, stents, and a valve repaired she woke up inspired and energetic every morning.  She was an encourager and a blessing to all.

In every way she was a formidable force that challenged whatever she considered to be wrong or unjust.  She stood for what was right and strived to do her part to bring about a positive change.

Ruby leaves to cherish her memory, Phyllis Yvonne McAllister, her children; Christiful Herron, her loving daughter-in-law, Taneka and Christine Herron Borger, grandchildren; Tranyse L. Herron and Christiful Herron, Jr.  Extended family members; Daughter , Tiffany McAllister Davis, grandchildren, Chad Green, granddaughters,  Nayajah Johnson, Jada Davis, great grands; Taedyn Green and Greyson Johnson, also Kelsey Battley, Chanz Battley and De'Avya Battley.  Siblings; Willie Mae Grover and Leslie Woods.  Special Niece Cheryl Herron, Special Cousin Charlotte Robinson, and a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews and cousins.  Special children or Denise Williams, Charlotte Cumbo, Dorothy Goodjoint, Brenda McCann, Allison Washington and Karen Petit R.I.P.  Special longtime Family Friends, Barbara Brown, Neita Pittman, Nannette "Blonde" Wokeme, Brenda Payne, Carolyn Mouton, Martha Mitchell, Regina Pinkney and Dennis Jones.

In addition, Ruby was preceded by four brothers, Thomas, Tony, William Jr. and Charlie.  One sister, Cynthia "Niecy".
