Rudolph
Owens
Jun 6, 1943 — Jun 6, 2016
Rudolph Owens (Rudy) was born in June 6, 1943 along with a twin brother Adolph to Clarence J. & Katherine Owens in Gonzales, County, Waelder, Texas. While attending church with his Grand Aunt & Grandmother, he accepted Christ at a very early age.
After some years of marriage to Gloria he formed a relationship with Frances Porter, a former friend from San Antonio, Texas. From his relationship with Frances two daughters were born, Stephanie & Rhonda Owens, In 1980 Rudolph met Joyce Foster Owens. They met while working a benefit Golf Tournament for the Sickle Cell Foundation. After seeing Joyce, Rudy knew she was the woman for him. They got married in 1981 and he brought to this marriage four loving children. After working for Grocery Supply for many years he moved on to work for Sam's Wholesale Club and Houston Independent School District. He retired from HISD in 2008 and after his many years of working hard and providing for his family his kids and wife gave him a lavish retirement party that was well attended by many family and friends. One of the biggest gifts he received for his retirement from his wife was a three-week vacation touring the United States and Canada with other family members.
Rudy loved the game of golf! He started p0laying and caddying at the age of 12 and didn't stop until he could no longer swing his club, due to Parkinson Disease which he endured for 20 years. Rudy attended church while living in San Antonio; and continued to attend after moving to Houston. In `1981 he joined Brentwood Baptist Church where he was a faithful usher and served as a Sunday School Teacher with his wife Joyce for the 5th Grade Sunday School Class for many years. Rudy and Joyce later moved their membership to Wilcrest Baptist Church and he joined the Usher Ministry and served as an usher until his health would no longer allow him to serve. He was very involved with his Sunday School Class and looked forward to each Sunday to study and worship with them.
Rudolph leaves to cherish his memories his wife Joyce Foster Owens, his four children; Alison Strait (Lorne), son, Rudolph, Jr., Stephanie and Rhonda Owens; four grandchildren, Brenna, Jasmine and Jordan Strait and Darren Owens Massaquoi; five brother, Elisha, Raymond (Joyce), Adolph (Paulette), Leroy (Mae) and Jesse and one sister, Florence Vester (David) and a host of relatives and friends. He is now with his father and mother CJ and Kathrine, second mother, Miss Betty and his two sisters Magaline and Mary.
