Obituary

Sherrie Kay Hamilton (T T) mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, transitioned home to be with the Lord on the evening of December 3rd in Houston, Texas, surrounded by her family and friends. The memory of her kindness will forever have an impact and a blessing to all who knew her.

Sherrie Kay was born on August 1, 1950, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, to her loving parents, James Donaway and Dorothea (Barnum) Donaway. Sherrie was born the second of four siblings.

Sherrie's educational journey began in Campti, Louisiana, where she graduated high school from Campti Creston High in 1968. Sherrie matriculated to Northwestern University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, where she received her bachelor's degree in social work. She continued her education at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with a master's in social work. Sherrie married Jacob Hamilton and to this union was blessed with one daughter, Sonya.

Sherrie embarked on a life journey of compassion and dedicated her life to helping to improve the lives of others. She began her career with the State of Texas with the Department of Protective and Regulatory Services. She continued her pursuit to meet the physical and mental needs of patients as a medical social worker at Memorial Hermann Hospital, until she retired. After retirement she continued to serve others as a member of the leadership team of Glenbrook United Methodist Church. She also was the treasurer of Campti-Creston Alumni Association. Community was very important to her as she left a legacy that will live on in the hearts of everyone that she touched.

What truly defined Sherrie was her unwavering faith. She was baptized at an early age at St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was a devout Christian, living each day of her life in the service of God, leaving an enduring mark of love and faith in everything she did.

Sherrie was authentic and stood firmly on her beliefs. She was known for her honesty, fairness, and the ability to speak her mind without judgement. She was a responsible, nurturing person, and touched the lives of each person she knew.

Sherrie loved to travel, as her journeys have led her to many corners of the world. She loved to watch sports, read, and she stayed up to date on politics with her daily viewings of CNN.

Sherrie was not just a remarkable woman, but a beautiful soul, deeply cherished by her friends and family. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will be clearly missed by those who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory forever with her daughter, Sonya Hamilton, grandson, Tyson Hamilton (Monica), great-grandson, Xander Hamilton, brother, Jerry Donaway (Carolyn), sister, Mary Collins (Leo-deceased), Yvonne Donaway (sister-in-law), and one aunt, Dorothy Eden (Lincoln-deceased). She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins, and a host of family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Dorothea Donaway, and a brother, James Donaway.

As we gather here today to remember and honor Sherrie, we celebrate not only the wonderful life she lived but also the love and connections she built with her family, leaving an enduring mark in their hearts. Sherrie's memory will continue to be a source of comfort and inspiration for all who had the privilege of being a part of her life.

Today, as we say our final goodbyes, we will remember the beautiful life of Sherrie Hamilton, a woman whose heart was filled with love, whose actions were guided by faith, and whose legacy will forever resonate in our hearts.
