There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die.
Shirley Delores Smith was born March 15, 1950, to Maggie Lee Harris and Clifford Robinson. Shirley attended Grimes and Fairchild Elementary, Attucks Middle School and graduated from Evan E. Worthing High School. Shirley also attended Prairie View A&M University. Shirley was very active in school. She was on the swim team where she competed and placed in many competitions at Attucks Middle School. She was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps where she was a twirler and she was voted Homecoming Queen in her junior year at Worthing High School.
Shirley expressed her love for Christ at an early age and was baptized at East Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. S. L. Farris. She was a faithful member of the Starlight Band and the Youth Choir. Shirley also loved attending Vacation Bible School.
Shirley learned to cook by watching her mother and she developed a love and passion for cooking. Shirley was known for her tea cakes her sweet potato pies. Every holiday she would cook and look forward to feeding her family, and as far as Shirley was concerned no one in the family could cook like she could.
Shirley absolutely loved her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She dedicated her time to nourish and take care of her grands. She was always dancing and joking around when her family gathered together.
Over the course of her career, Shirley was employed with MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston Post Office and the AFLCIO.
Shirley departed this earth and made her heavenly entrance on January 3, 2024. To cherish her precious memories, Shirley leaves her two daughters, Lynn Shelley (Rochae) and Gloria Smith; one sister, Emma Garrett; ten grandchildren, Keara, Tamara, Aleah, Justin, Savon, Colby, Tatyana, Dawnyale, Jordan and Rochae, Jr.; six great grandchildren, Kaci, Aliyana, Levi, Blake, Kehlani and Samari; two nephews, Wilbert Ray Hubbard and Derek McCoy; one aunt, Beatrice Jones, of Midland, Texas; special uncles and aunts in Hearn, Texas and a very special cousin Dorothy Ross.
Amongst those waiting to receive her in Heaven are, her mother, Maggie Harris, her father, Clifford Robinson, son, Leonard D. Smith, Jr. four sisters, Gloria, Savannah, Gwen and Deborah and one brother, Robert.
