Shuntel Mourice
Coco
Nov 15, 1971 — Sep 3, 2025
Shuntel Mourice Coco, a stalwart of a man whose life embodied faith, perseverance, and devotion, was called home to be with the Lord at the age of 53. A husband, father, son, grandfather, protector, provider, and businessman, Shuntel's presence was a steady anchor for all who knew him.
Born on November 15, 1971, in Dallas, Texas, to Mary Angela Coco and Ralph Jackson, Shuntel's life was rooted in faith from the very beginning. As a child, he was baptized at Lady Sorrow Catholic Church in Moreauville, Louisiana, a spiritual foundation that would guide him through every season of his life.
In his youth, Shuntel's family relocated to Houston, Texas, where he was educated through the Houston Independent School District. A proud graduate of James Madison Sr. High School, Class of 1989, he forged friendships during those formative years that would last a lifetime. Family and friendsoften called him by his last name "Coco".
Shuntel's work ethic was unmatched. He began his career as a barber, mastering his craft and eventually fulfilling his entrepreneurial dream by opening his own barbershop, Coco's Original Cuts. Never one to settle, he expanded his talents into multiple ventures, becoming a well-known DJ, "DJBullDog", a truck driver, and later, a savvy investor. His business acumen was matched only by his determination to provide for and protect his family.
In 2009, seeking a deeper relationship with Christ, Shuntel rededicated his life to the Lord and united with The Fountain of Praise under the spiritual leadership of Senior Pastor Dr. Remus E. Wright. His walk with God grew stronger, and his steps guided by his favorite scripture, Proverbs 16:9 were firmly ordered by the Lord.
Shuntel's greatest earthly blessing came when he met his soulmate, Barbara Christian. On April 15, 2011, they stood before God, family, and friends to enter into a covenant of love and commitment as husband and wife. He embraced Barbara's children as his own, and together they built a home filled withlaughter, faith, and unconditional love.
Outside of his work, Shuntel found joy in life's simple pleasures riding in his Old School Truck, taking road trips, he loved all things music and staying up late playing music which was one of pastimes, and watching both NFL and college football in his garage. Yet, nothing brought him more joy than time spent with his family. His words, often repeated, became a source of encouragement to many: "I'm not dying, I'm too busy living" and "You'll be alright, just keep living."
Shuntel Mourice Coco's life was a living testimony to resilience, love, and unwavering faith. His hands built, his heart cultivated, and his presence reassured. Though he has departed this earthly life, his spirit will live on in the stories shared, the memories made, the lessons taught, and the love that binds his family together.

He is preceded in death by his beloved family, his father, Ralph Jackson, his grandparents, Emile Coco Sr., Ola Coco, Anne Bell Hudson, Genevieve Jackson, uncle, Hubert Coco, cousins, Patrick Coco, and Ervin Coco.
