Sunni Ali nee George Thomas Edwards was born on January 6, 1942, to Barbara Jones & Richard Jake Edwards, Sr. in Houston, Texas. Sunni expired peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his Nurse Jessica and his caregiver on Wednesday, August 13th at 9:30 am.

He was preceded in death by both his parents, Barbara & Richard Edwards, older brother Richard, younger brother Kenneth & sister, Carolyn Ruth Shields and nephew Kenneth.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Carter Ali. Nephews Richard & wife Marilyn, Lance, Keefe, I Rondal A. Edwards and R Vaughn. His nieces Cynthia and Stephaney Edwards, Sharon Hayes & Samantha Shields. Many Great & Grand great nieces and nephews. Cousins Ann Wilson & Beretta Ward. As well as Sister-in-law Gwen Carter Taheri.

Sunni graduated from Jack Yates High School and was a member of the Lions Football Team. He attended Lincoln University, San Jose State College while residing in San Jose, California. His studies came to a halt when he was drafted into the Army. He would graduate from The University of Houston after serving in Germany & Vietnam and returning to Houston to live. He also attended graduate school at Texas Southern University. His studies there were interrupted when he sustained a terrible head and brain injury while working at the Port of Houston. Thanks to the brilliant efforts of both the brain & plastic surgeons he made an unexpected and remarkable full recovery.
