Terrence Ardis

Terrence Ardis, 62, of Sugar Land, Texas, passed away at his home on August 9, 2026.

Terrence was born on August 7, 1964, in Houston, Texas, and was lovingly raised by Clarence Ardis and Mayme Ardis. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at St. Agnes Missionary Baptist Church, and his faith remained an important foundation throughout his life.

After graduating from Ross S. Sterling High School in 1982, Terrence attended North Texas State University, where he pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He later earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration from LeTourneau University.

In 1987, Terrence married his high school sweetheart, Kimberly Holmes. Their family included six children: Terre Holmes, Brian Hickman, Kristin Ardis, Sydnie Ardis, Kendall Ardis, and Olivia Ardis.

Terrence proudly served in the United States Army and later continued his service in the United States Army Reserve. Early in his military career, he served as a watercraft mechanic. His honors included the Basic Aviation Badge, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and other commendations. After many years of honorable military service, he retired from the Army Reserve.

Terrence also dedicated more than 25 years to the City of Houston. He began his career with the Houston Water Department and concluded it in the Human Resources Department. His discipline, dedication, and strong work ethic were evident throughout his professional and military service.

Beyond his accomplishments, Terrence will be remembered for his love for his family, genuine concern for others, and ability to make people laugh. He enjoyed family gatherings, good music, staying active, Marvel movies, game nights, and Houston Texans football. He was especially known for his hearty laugh, which shook his whole body. Terrence had a special way of making others feel seen and valued. When he spent time with someone one-on-one, he made that person feel like the most important person in the room.

Terrence was preceded in death by Clarence Ardis, Mayme Ardis-Grier, Mary Mack, and his beloved grandson, Brian Hickman II.

He leaves to cherish his memory his six children; 20 grandchildren; his beloved sister, Carole Ardis; his father, Van Polk Sr.; his siblings, Bruce Polk, Kenneth Polk, David Polk, June Polk, Van Polk, Melanie Adegbenro, and Khadijah Johnson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, fraternity brothers, colleagues, and friends; and his wife, Betty Allen.

Terrence fought the good fight, finished his race, and kept the faith. His legacy will live on through his family and all who knew and loved him.
