Thelma Louise (Wallace) Gipson

Oct 22, 1937 — Sep 4, 2026

Houston, TX

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:4 KJV

Born in McDavid, FL on October 22, 1937, Thelma was the eldest sibling of 4. She served in church after finishing high school. She then met her husband Richard in 1955 during a mission, eventually marrying and starting her family in Houston, TX in 1958. Thelma went on to study at Texas Southern University, achieving her masters degree in education. She served HISD for 25 years as an educator.

Her hands touched so many lives- not only through lessons taught in the classroom, but through the piano keys played in church, and songs of worship she lifted in praise. Thelma carried herself with grace, strength, and conviction, never wavering in what she believed or in the love she had for her family & friends, her students, and her church. Through her teaching, her ministry, her music, and her everyday acts of love, she spent her life pouring into others. Her voice, faith, and presence became a part of the lives of so many, and the life she shared will continue to live on through each person she touched.

She is survived by her husband Richard, her children Ronald, Janet, and Sonya, grandchildren Krystal and Jaren (preceded in death), Brandon and Kenadi, and great-grandchildren A’niya, Rhyon, Brandon Jr, Daylan and a host of nieces and nephews.

Her earthly song has ended, but her heavenly song has just begun.
