Valeria Pearl Vick, our beloved matriarch passed away on May 30, 2026, peacefully. She was born in Bellville, Texas on October 20, 1944, to the late Lieutenant Evans and Alward Broussard.
Her family relocated to Houston, Texas where she was baptized at an early age here at Evangelist Chapel A.M.E. Church; she remained a faithful member for over 50 years. She attended school in HISD where she graduated from E.E. Worthing High School class of 1962. Valeria continued her education at Prairie View A&M University graduating with her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in 1966.
In November 1970, she married the love of her life, Andrew L. Vick, Jr. Noticeably, her greatest joy was her family. Living abroad and domestically, she developed a love for educating children, as she maintained her dedication and faithfulness to her husband and four adorable children – Yolanda, Sonja, Andrea and Adrian.
Her professional life was well-defined by more than 40 years of enthusiastic, dedicated service in education. Her unwavering commitment to teaching touched countless lives, shaping generations, fostering a love of learning in her community. Her approach was direct, straightforward, and thoughtful, with an optimistic outlook for all her beloved students, colleagues and administrators. She took pride in mentoring the new teachers as she spent time acclimating them, sharing her wisdom, and ensuring they were abreast of all the key elements to success. She received several accolades including Teacher of the Year. In 2013, she retired from Fort Bend Independent School District after 31 years of service.
Her life-long church commitment included serving as the Sunday School Superintendent, a Stewardess, and a continuous member of the Usher Board for many years reflected her deep faith and steadfast devotion, as a guiding light and source of comfort. Through every chapter of her life, she built lasting friendships, forming bonds with lifelong friends who cherished her sincerity, wisdom, and kindness.
She is proceeded in death by her mother, Lieutenant Evans, her father, Alward Broussard, brother, Reginald Evans, and her grandson Dominique Thornton.
She leaves to cherish in memory her beloved husband, Andrew L. Vick, Jr of almost 60 years.
4 children: Yolanda Vick, Dr. Sonja Waller (Dr. Del Shon, Sr.), Andrea Vick, Adrian Vick.
14 Grandchildren: Shapri Morris, Crystal Morris, Tikesha Morris, Deshon Whitfield, Taylor Thornton, Auria Smith (Carson), Zano Bailey, Zach Bailey, Isaiah Vick, Delisha Waller, Del Shon Waller, Jr., Delinique Waller, Desani Waller; 15 Great-Grand Children; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Aunt Simmie Evans, Sister, Linda Joyce Craven & Sister-in-Love, Linda Faye King; loving friends Mary Brandon, Gloria Prince, and Wanda Palmer.
Her strength, grace and unwavering devotion to her family, church and community will be remembered forever. Her life was a testament to compassion, strength, and dedication. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, inspiration and resilience. As a remarkable woman whose legacy will live forever in our hearts.
