Obituary

Wardell Regan Thomas was born to the union of Willis Thomas and Willie Nell Buchanan Thomas on December 2, 1951. Wardell grew up in Sunnyside Gardens and accepted Christ in his childhood.

He received his primary education in the Houston Independent School District, graduating in the Class of 1970 from Evan E. Worthing High School.  He was an aspiring track and field star, winning several awards.  He attended Texas Southern University.

Wardell received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy where he served during the Viet Nam conflict until 1977.

Mr. Thomas' career as a "rigger" spanned many years with McDermott Offshore Drilling Company before ending due to a job-related disability.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Chaquita, sister Jean Mays, and brother, Willis, Jr.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his children—Taishika, Wardric, and Torrence; grandchildren – Amber, Jessica, Marco, and Josh; great grandchildren – Aiden, Amir, and Ashton; niece – Cheryl Mays Allen; nephews – Reginald Mays; Bobbie Mays; great nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
