Obituary

Wayne Douglas King, I was born June 1, 1951, in Houston, Texas to the late Jesse J and Willie Ray King.  He was the second born of this divine union.

Wayne accepted Christ at an early age being baptized at Fourth Missionary Baptist Church.  He joined Berean Baptist Church where he began singing in the Youth Choir and became a Jr. Deacon.  Later he became a member of Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church and continued his love of singing as a member of the choir.

Wayne attended Houston Independent School District and graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1970.  He became a proud member of the United States Navy.  After serving his county he continued ahis education at Houston Community College.  Wayne was employed for years by the Southern Pacific Railroad.  Afterwards he was employed with the United States Postal Service as a Mail Handler and retired after 35 years of service in 2019.

Singing was Wayne's passion.  Not only did he sing in the San Jacinto H.S. Choir, he sang with the Navy Choir and many Church Choirs launched a career as a solo artist.  He would sing for anyone who asked, performing at weddings, funerals, anniversaries, birthdays, and retirement events.  He also was a proud member of the Tom Bass Sr., Drama Program as the Music Coordinator.  This program allowed him to exercise his vocals around the city and county of the Houston area.  He loved to sing, which always did his heart and soul well.  His love for signing would be light up a room and with his pure tenor vocals and his incredible smile.

Wayne was an avid sportsman equally as his love for singing.  Fishing and hunting were just as important.  He knew Galveston Bay like he planned it himself, always catching the daily fishing limit.  When that happened, he would share his bounty with others.   The work schedule was always planned around the opening of the Texas Deer Season and Wayne was never disappointed if he harvested a deer or not, it was mostly about getting back to nature.  Anytime he could get to Kennard, Texas was a bonus.

June 20, 1998, Wayne married the love of his life, brenda Renea Tolbert.  With this union a bouncing baby boy, Wayne Douglas King, II was born.   He loved his entire family, but his greatest love was that which he had for his son.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jessie King, Jr., sister, Betty Ruth King, father-in-law, Joseph Tolbert and adopted daughter, Brigget Holloman.

Wayne's love and memories will live in the hearts of his loving wife, Brenda, son, Wayne II, adopted children, Marvin Taylor (Janieka), Eddie Taylor (Torsonya), both of Houston, TX; Stacey Colins (Pat), North Carolina; Elizabeth Olgatree of Houston, TX.  Loving brothers, Johnnie King of Missouri City, TX and James King (Rhonda) of Ft. Worth, TX.  Beautiful sisters, Pamela Washington (Michael deceased) of Houston, TX; Elvina Davis of Missouri City, TX and Johndale Aubry of Alameda, CA; a loving mother-in-law, Rosa Tolbert of Hastings, FL, brother-in-law, Willie Tolbert (Terrie) of Union Springs, AL, and tow sisters-in-law, Josephine Tolbert of Hastings, FL, and Delphine Tolbert of Hyattsville, MD; also a host of aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends.
