Obituary

Will Phillips Jr. was born on June 12, 1949 in Houston, Texas to the late Will Phillips Sr. and Leona Phillips, who raised him with love, strength, and unwavering support. From a young age, he displayed a vibrant spirit, a kind heart, and a natural ability to bring joy to those around him. Whether it was his infectious laughter, his caring nature, or his ability to turn any moment into a cherished memory, he was a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He received his formal education within the Houston Independent School system were he attended Burrus Elementary, and Booker T. Washington High School, where he excelled academically and built lifelong friendships. A hardworking and ambitious individual, he pursued a career as a Longshoreman at the Port of Houston for over fifty years, where his dedication and passion left a lasting impact on colleagues and clients alike. He was deeply committed to his work, always striving to make a difference and leave a positive mark on the world. Beyond his professional achievements, Will was a man of many passions. He found joy in spending time with his family, playing dominoes, ran track when he was younger, enjoyed traveling, BBQing, and playing pick 3, and he was always eager to share his talents with those around him. He embraced every experience with enthusiasm and love. More than anything, Will was devoted to his family and friends. He cherished his relationships and was a source of strength, laughter, and unwavering support to those who needed him. He had a special love for his grandkids, and he took great pride in being a loyal husband, father, brother and friend. He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife of 36 ½ years, Sharon, his sister, Carolyn Wells (Elgia); his brother, Leon Phillips; and his children, Will Phillips III, Nikki Watley—his devoted daughter and caretaker —Marcus Phillips (LaDonna), and Montrell Phillips. He also leaves to cherish his memory his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Will Phillips Sr. and Leona Phillips, sister Pamela Dunn, daughter La'Shunda Phillips, whom we take comfort in knowing welcomed him with open arms. Though the pain of his loss is overwhelming, we find solace in the memories he left behind.
