WILLIE WHITE, JR. known to many as "Rev. White" was born on November 12, 1950, to the union of the late Willie L. White and the late Mary Alice McGee in New Orleans, Louisiana. His residence was Houston, Texas where he and his wife reside after Hurricane Katrina. Rev. White was the oldest of eight children. He received his formal education in the New Orleans Public School System in New Orleans, Louisiana. He joined the Military and served in the United States Army. He also attended the Union Baptist Theological Seminary where he graduated with his Masters in Theology.
WILLIE grew up as a Catholic and later in life was baptized into the Baptist faith. He was ordained as a Minister at Cullen Missionary Baptist Church and St. Mark Fourth Baptist Church (New Orleans, LA).
WILLIE was united in holy matrimony with Saundra Washington Faure' in New Orleans. This marriage resulted in a blended family which included three children; one son, Oliver Faure, Jr. (New Orleans, LA) and 2 daughters, Betty Ann White (Kenner, LA) and the late Catrece A. Hawkins.
WILLIE was employed as a laborer with the United States Public Health Hospital. Later being employed as Chaplain Assistant at the Veterans Medical Center of New Orleans from where he retired after 25 years of public service.
WILLIE was a member of VAMC Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC) and in 2010 he was featured in the PRRC Changing Times (Member Spotlight). The article stated "Being a retired chaplain has provided him with the opportunity to change the lives of so many by introducing Christ to them and praying for countless many". This he says "is the one thing that he is most proud to have accomplished on his journey in life". The article also stated that Chaplain White could also be spotted at the main building assisting the vendors where he would keep a watchful eye on the crowd just in case someone forgets to pay before they walked away. He was also a member of the Disable American Veterans (DAV) and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
WILLIE leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 25 years, Saundra Faure'-White, 1 daughter, Betty Ann White (Kenner, LA), and one son, Oliver Faure', Jr. (New Orleans, LA); three sisters, Sheila (James) Green (New Orleans, LA), Wanda White and Abby (Michael) Gibson (New Orleans, LA); one brother, Dwight White (New Orleans, LA); 9 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren (New Orleans, LA) and 2 great grandchildren (Beasley, TX).
REV. WILLIE was summoned on March 27, 2024 to get his rest. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie L. White and his mother, Mary Alice McGee, 3 brothers, Wayne, Michael, and Raymond White, father-in-law, Paul Washington, Sr., his mother-in-law, Zephora Washington, and four brothers-in-law Paul, Jr., Ralph, Frederick, and Anthony Washington; and one sister-in-law, Linda Jackson; and one daughter, Catrece Hawkins.
