Willie Nesby "Tom" Thomas, was born on November 16, 1938, in Lumberton, North Carolina. He was the beloved and cherished only child of his mother, Minnie McCoy, who raised him and instilled in him the values of faith, discipline, and perseverance that shaped his life.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 28 years, rising to the distinguished rank of Chief Master Sergeant. During his military career, he served in Vietnam, and his service concluded with his retirement from Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, reflecting decades of honorable and dedicated service. A man of deep and abiding faith, Willie was baptized in April 1942. He faithfully served the Lord as a Deacon at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Biloxi, Mississippi, and later continued his service as a Deacon at New Faith Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, where he served for 16 years. His commitment to the church and to serving others remained central throughout his life.

Willie met the love of his life, Pearlean, in 1962. They were united in marriage on July 25, 1963, and shared 62 years of marriage rooted in love, faith, and companionship. Together, they shared a deep passion for travel. Willie fulfilled a childhood dream of visiting all 50 states, and the couple enjoyed traveling extensively, taking many cruises together. Their last major trip was a memorable journey to Italy, reflecting their shared love for exploration and adventure.
