Wilson Oakley Jr., affectionately called "Beaker Bob" or "Oakley", passed away quietly and peacefully on Saturday, August 3, 2024 in Houston, Texas. The oldest of eight children, he was born to Wilson Oakley Sr. and Beatrice Davis Oakley in Opelousas, Louisiana on November 30, 1944.
He was baptized at an early age in Opelousas, Louisiana . He proudly became a member of St Agnes Church on November 5, 2005 under the leadership of Bishop Gene A Moore Sr.
A former member of the United States Army, he was discharged from his duties on February 28, 1969. After being discharged, he began a career in the food industry at Weingarten and Safeway stores. Having a lifelong desire to be an entrepreneur, he decided to go into the trucking business. Wilson purchased and operated his own big rig for many years. Wilson loved to stay busy and loved children so he went on to become a school bus driver. He often told stories about his little passengers and how much joy they brought him.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Cathleen Warren Jones on September 2,2000.
He was preceded in death by his parents , three siblings (Albertha Tyler, Margie Pickney and Herbert Oakley), his first wife and mother of his children (Melinda Stafford Oakley), two sons (James Darren Oakley and Traven Oakley) and one grandson (James Oakley Jr.)
He will be missed and cherished by his wife, daughter (Angela Bennett), two bonus sons ( Derek and Keven Jones), his siblings Dorothy Oakley Richard, Joseph Oakley (Diane), Mary Ned (Harold), Jerry Oakley (Donna), three surviving Aunts, Josephine Larkins , Louise Mallet, Rosa Lee Perkins, ten grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
