Ellen Marie Rosette Deville was born the 6th of 11 children to George and Ellen Batiste Rosette, both of whom preceded her in death. She was born November 18, 1933 in Opelousas, L ouisiana . Ellen accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Opelousas, L ouisiana under the leadership of Rev. Samuel A. Crowder. Ellen attended public school at J. S. Clark High School where she was an outstanding basketball forward and graduated in 1955.

After high school Ellen relocated to Houston, T exas and the love of her life and high school sweetheart Ned Deville followed her. On February 25, 1956; Ellen and Ned were united in holy matrimony. To this union, seven children were born.  Julie Cheryl, Victor Lee, Marian Gayle, and Andrea Marie , a set of t wins – Rodney and Renee and Michael. The twins Rodney & Renee and Michael preceded her in death. After relocating to Houston, T exas she joined Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. J. J. Roberson and remained a member of Mt. Hebron under the leadership of Dr. Max A. Miller, Jr. She was a member of the Golden Bunch until her illness prevented her from attending meetings. She was the leader of the "chew gum" and "peppermints" section , at church on her pew.

Ellen enjoyed life immensely and was no stranger to work.  She retired from Foley's Department store as a Housekeeping Supervisor after 35 years of employment.  After retirement, Ellen operated a home childcare service. Many children are now successful adults and still deem her as their "Big Momma". There was so much fun in the house on the corner of Alvin and Chain for every generation.

Ellen enjoyed watching television programs including soap operas, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and playing solitaire.  She also was an avid sports enthusiast.  She was knowledgeable on the techniques of all sporting events and could identify athletes by name and the teams they played on.  She was not happy to receive any telephone calls during the games.  Sunday and holiday dinners attracted a household of family and friends because she was skillful in the kitchen.

A loving wife, mother, nurturing sister, proud Grand and Great Grand m other, dedicated worker, fun – but no-nonsense Aunt; respected friend, all described the love of Ellen Marie Deville .

Ellen departed this earthly life on Wednesday morning, February 17, 2021. Preceding her in death were her parents George Warner Rosette and Ellen Batiste Rosette; six brothers - James Calvin, Mervin Gilbert, George Warner, Jr . , Earl Ronald, Arthur Gene, and Robert Lee.

She leaves to cherish her memories: Four children – Julie, Victor ( Bebe) (Sherri Brooks), Marian (Darryl Anthony), and Andrea (Troy Randle), t en grandchildren: Trenicia (Corey Luke), Erika (Robert Griffin), Rodney, Victor Jr., Jasmine, Julius, Jamal, Jamichael, Jalynn, and Javon; t en g reat g randchildren:  Keonna, Kynnedi, Khloe, Karter, Ky, Carsen , Jerika, Jerico, Journee, and Jayla ; t hree sisters - Georgia, Mary, and Shirley; o ne b rother –

Don (June) ; f ive s ister s- in -l aw - Ann, Jessie, Lulu, Sybil , and Lucille ; 2 God daughters - Marva Lynn Nash & Teketha Turner; a cornucopia of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends from far and near.
