On February 15, 1943, Robert Holmes and Catherine Polk welcomed their only daughter, Janie Mae, into this world.  She grew up in the historic Freedman's Town in Houston, Texas. She accepted the Lord and was baptized at an early age at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. A proud Booker T. Washington Eagle, she completed her education at and worked for HISD.

An ardent decorator, she could beautify and embellish any space.  Her decorating skills were unparalleled. They say clothes make the man, however Janie made  the clothes for she really knew how to dress.  Be it  her Sunday best or just everyday casual, she always looked good. She always enjoyed talking with her sister, cousin, aunts and friends while catching up on what's going on. Although soft spoken and quiet, never in the limelight, she would make her presence known. She did not play!

On Tuesday, August 31, 2021, Janie slipped into peace to the heavenly realm with her beloved daughter at her side.  Left to cherish her treasured memory: Children Leah Emerson (Phillip)  Roderick Holmes  (Evelyn)  Shawn Holmes; Grandchildren Roshunda, Roderick, Phillip II,  Nicole, DeAndre, Dijonnae, Kayla; Aunts  Jessie Gaston, Lillie Taylor, Virginia Williams (Joe); Special SisterCousin Ilene Routt Banks and a host of loving family and friends.

Although gone from this realm, she will forever be in our hearts.  Farewell, sweet Janie.
